Post by locost_bryan » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:33 am

Is this the "light" pickup with standard Marina wheels and axles, or the "heavy duty" with A60/MGB wheels and axles?

Tidy looking Marina pickup in Christchurch NZ. Originally listed for $1,000 (500GBP), now opening bid of $200.

Model Marina 500
Year 1979
Odometer 76,768 km
Colour Off-white
Body Style Wellside Utility
Engine Size 1275 BMC OHV Motor
Transmission 4 Speed syncro box
Chassis Number YE2UKH8009441P

Tidy all-original ute with tonneau cover. Sound body. Use as-is or ideal vehicle to restore to high standard. Original paint shows 30 years of minor scrapes and wear. Genuine low mileage for age. Original BMC OHV 1300cc motor that starts easily and runs well. Smokey at startup, clear when warmed. 4 speed gearbox, near new tyres. NZ new & goes well. A really cute handy Ute! Wof/Regd.

Previous listing had this description :-
Tidy all-original ute with tonneau cover. Sound body and can be used as-is or ideal vehicle to restore to a high standard. Original paint, a bit of wear and tear showing. Genuine low mileage for age. Strong 1300cc motor that starts easily and runs well. Very peppy but ideally would improve even more with a set of rings. Factory original motor and 4 speed gearbox. Wof/Regd, near new tyres. NZ new & goes well. A really cute handy Ute!

Might just need new rings, if you're lucky! :?

Bryan
The 'light' vehicles only had 1100 engines I think.
Doubt that any made it out to NZ.
This has the A60 stud pattern, plus the 4.1 or thereabouts diff.
Hard to tell from photos how good/bad the bodywork really is, but it seems to have been well looked after.
Be a good home for some serious horsepower...

I've bunged a bid on it anyway - at least the owner will now have my details if he really needs to unload it cheap.. :)

What do you think Bryan - are you interested.?

Cheers.

Hi guys,

In the UK you could get 1.1 and 1.3 engines in both the 'light' and 'heavy' versions.

The 'heavy' version has a 4.55:1 rear axle ratio. In the late 70s I drove a 1.1 'heavy' van for a few days, great as long as you weren't expected anywhere in a hurry, but probably good in the mountains, as you could virtually drive it up a brick wall.
