IOW August bank holiday weekend

Post by balmy » Thu Aug 20, 2009 5:52 pm

First off-who's going?

Second-whats happening over there on the Sunday?

I did have a chat to Frank on Tuesday and he said its ....... ( forgotten the word-starts with 'C' maybe :? ) but didnt get around to asking what it actually was. Presume its a car show?!?!?!

Anyhow, there is a slim chance I can come on the Sunday for the day. Question is, what time would I need to be on the island to meet up with everyone and what time do you reckon I would get away for the long drive home? ( I want to pre-book ferries )

Also, as I will be travelling from Devon on my own, anyone else on the way expecting to do the trip and fancy meeting up on route? 8)

Hi David,

I went to the Isle-of- wight last year, Sunday's "show" was at Robin Hill country park.

When you said Frank mentioned a "word beginning with C" it could mean they are returning to Calbourne Mill, where the Sunday run always took place every year until last year.

I went to Calbourne about 13 years ago, both venues are a good day out.

I am not going this year, maybe in the future.

On a different subject, did you get any decent photos of the soggy Paignton show to go on this forum?

There will be a get together for a few drinks and a meal in the old village at Shanklin on the sat evening ! Just for some informal fun and Marina blah blah ! :)

We'll be at Robin Hill Country Park on the Sunday for the show and a drive back to Shanklin via Culver Down for some photo's ;) ! There's also a pub there !

Monday we might (might) be going to Calbourne mill followed by a road run and then a meal at the Wight Mouse ! Robin Hill is free for car and driver and £4.50 for anyone else ! This is a substantial reduction on normal entry prices to the park !
Looks like it will be at Robin Hill Country park on Sunday and Calbourne Mill on the Monday!
I think last year you had to be at Robin Hill Country park for the car show at or before 10am but not sure how strict this is.
You can go any time but I think it wraps up about 4:30 to 5pm and off to get grub!
I would contact Jim as I think his wife helps organise it all at Robin Hill.
the crossing is about an hour and Robin Hill is about 25 mins drive after that.

Thanks Jim for putting up those photos-I really didnt have the energy by the time I got home last night!

Paul's Unipart coupe was stunning. Engine will be tuned soon apparently! :D The standard of cars was excellent and I had a great ( but long! ) day.

And to all the doubters- I got to the IOW and back on one tank of petrol! Average of 31 mpg. Who said TC's cant be frugal? ( ish! )

Its been a very long but enjoyable weekend and i hope some of the other lads get some pics up soon ! The standards of the cars over the last couple of years has been great and definately improving compared to 10-15 years ago ! And yes Sean ...Pauls coupe is a favorite of mine too ...I cant believe thats the same car Adz and i saved and had sat in the barn a couple of years ago ! And all it took him was 9 weeks from start to finish ...Pretty good going eh ? And i'm not surprised he looked knackered this weekend :) !!
