What IF???

A theoretical ethical dilemma for you to ponder - a bit like the ones we did in school - " the pope, a heart surgeon and you are in a crashing plane with two parachutes..." What Ayn Rand called The Ethics Of Emergency.

Anyway, there you are, at the Top Gear live show or in studio at a filming. Your missus has bought you tickets.

Of course, you want to arrive in style and take your low mileage, immaculate marina along to thumb your nose at Jezza.

Half an hour into the show, your car appears on the screen with a piano dangling over it.

Jezza calls you out of the audience and offers you ever-increasing amounts of money to sell it to him so he can piano it. 2k, 3k...he gets to 10,000.

What do you do? Its immaculate. But you could save a couple of Marinas with 10k...

Thoughts!

( Justa bit of fum in case anyone thinks I've got tickets to TG !!)

:D

My answer will be NO!
Its not just the money for me, its the nearly 3 years restoring the car which would hurt if it got crushed! :(
If it was JC under the piano then I expect it would only get to a fiver before I said sod it and hit the button  :D

I am actually in this situation, My mrs has brought me tickets to Top Gear Live in Auckland this February and I was wondering if it would be an idea to take my wagon along. I could sit in the audience holding a British Leyland ST flag aloft, Now as I am a short bearded man of welsh decent who wears glasses and owns not 1 but 2 Marina's I would probably come close to being at the top of JC's most despised people.

I say go for it with the ST flag (But leave your car at home in case) and I will look out for you on telly

There is no advantage that JC is tall with no beard and does not wear glasses, if he upsets you kick him where it hurts most, or as high as you can get

It would have to get to 10k before I considered it,also depends on where the car had taken us over the years and the memories you have with that car.10k could buy you a minter and your pockets would be deep enough to mod it the way you might want to.
What a dilemma.
ct90dave if you love your car leave it at home.
NO dilemma. :D

10k is small change to Top Gear. With worldwide syndication and the DVD/book sales etc etc they can afford a lot more.
As has been said, a 'minter' could be bought, or another one or two bodyshells salvaged and restored. You could also set up a deal to have the remains trailered away so some mechanical parts would be salvaged.
But if I was in Pauls position with 3 years of graft and a personal connection, Jezza would have to offer an awful lot.

Money ain't everything but it sure helps.

if someone offered me ten grand i wouldn't need to think twice about it for all i love my coupe having owned her for 6 years . you than go go home buy a minter which will cost you no more than 2k anyone wanting more than that is a dreamer, and i'd still have 8k to play with. I think deep down anyone would would take that kind of money and anyone who would say no would need their heid looked

Not at any price to TG, it's not about the money, just a matter or principle. :x

I don't see many minters for £2000 - ? Well not what I call minters!

The white saloon recently scrapped under scrappage scheme was meant to be a "Minter" but the centre section of front grill looked like it was touched in with a 2 inch brush!! I know only a small detail and all I can go on as I had not seen the car for a long time. Plus I only required the outside part of the grill :D (Cheers to Ady) and I didn't need that bit of it, but certainly no minter. Maybe a solid car but not concourse.
I think mint marinas are thin on the ground, but this situation is getting better as people sort out some of the basket cases and transform them in to good cars. You only need to look at Darren Whites TC coupe and another one to watch close is Gavins TC

Be a shame to see your car crushed and then not be able to get one in as good nick :(
As Dave says, its not about money its about what the heart says and principals.
If I need £10,000 I can find it other ways than sell off my pride and joy. I would sell the other car long before I got rid of the Marina.
As always the value of your car depends on what someone will pay for it. If they don't want to pay you what you think its worth then don't sell it!
If you need the money that bad then you couldn't afford to run the car anyway so may be best sell it!
At the end of the day its your tin to play with and you can do what you like, just keep your hands off mine!! :P

PS> Nothing wrong with my head either  :? Well apart from buy a Marina that is

he is a thought
with the 10K you could then bribe the helicopter pilot to drop the piano on jezza's merc or whatever he drives now
and then offer him a lift home in the marina
having 1 of only a few T.C.'s in australia i would not let him near it!

Wow what a thought :!: . I was sitting at home the other night thinking about going to the classic car show at the N.E.C. What shall I go in the Marina or the Freelander. Oh dear decisions decisions. Then a thought occurred to me  . Isn't Top Gear Live on at the same time :( . The more I thought about it the more the idea came. There I was walking through the show thoroughly enjoying myself when a message giving a car registration number goes out over the tannoy system. That number seem familiar I thinks. On the third time of giving it out I realise that it is my number. I stop to listen to what is happening. Would the owner please go to the top gear live stand as they are about to have some fun with this car  . I run through the show to the hall where Top Gear Live is happening and get there just in time to see a piano dropping on my pride and joy   . Guess what I'm going to the show in. I 'm not taking the risk, not for any amount of money  .

I had the same waking dream, kind of.

She was talking about buying me tickets to TG here in Ireland, and I refused politely. BUt I WOULD go in the Marina...

Then the above scenario came into my head...

If you really want to get on JC's most despised list, you'll also need to wear a Greenpeace beanie and a Labour t-shirt.

Where in NZ do you live, Dave?
