MJP has sopping carpets now, driver's side front and rear.


Its the rear thats got me baffled. How on earth is it getting in there?

Is it parked level or sloping to the left.?
Have found water can come in under the doors if there is sufficient angle.
Also - with rear leaks.
Sometimes the drains for the rear window - which travel across the boot to the channels where the bootlid sits - can come away and dump water in the boot - which in turn can run under the back seat.

Mine leaks from the heater channel and from the rear seal

Strange I found a puddle tonight in the Front passenger footwell, the rubber mat caught it and the carpet is dry underneath.

I had something similar on mine. The water was pooling in the corners of the front windsreen, creeping underneath screen and then running down the inside of the window frame, down the back of the dashboard and dripping into the middle of the floor mat.

There was a tell-tale white dried streak on the inside of the window rubber & frame below where the water was tracking in.

I fixed it with black gutter sealer, it's like bathroom sealer but matches the black rubber seal and doesn't show up like the clear sealer does. I ran a screwdriver along the rubber channel, from the centre line of the screen to about 6" up the side frame, to clear out any grot (there was lots), then wrapped thge screwdriver in kitchen paper and dried it out as best I could. I then ran a bead all the way along the gap, squidging the sealer into the gap with the screwdriver - no more leaks in 18 months.

Was that after refitting the windows after your body work was done?
Something I will have to look out for!

I got a water leak at the moment but it is the engine and not the body!
Dripping off the timing chain cover!
Very small amount of water but about 1/2 pint a week just sitting!
Having coolant in the system makes this sort of problem appear as when the coolant is added it normally finds the smallest hole to leak out of :roll:
Don't think it is water pump as it is dry under the pulley area but there may be a trace from the water temp senser so I will keep and eye on it

Marinacoupe did you silicome betweeen the body and the seal or the glass and the seal?

Paul - yes it was after refitting following bodywork.

mikmik - I sealed between the glass and the rubber on the outside.

Paul - don't forget the thermostat housing and it's cork seal, another possibility would be the top house and thermostat housing.

I wonder if that could explain the water behind the driver's seat in the passenger footwell too? The boot is dry, and those drainage tubes aren't there at all.

5055 stopped leaking after it was painted but now there is a small puddle on the n/s passenger shelf. You can also slacken off your wheelbox and put sealer under it. Also sometimes the plastic spacer on the wheelbox can crack and the water comes in.
Mick if MJP has been garaged all its life you really dont know its leaking until it sits out for any length of time.

Mick, the fact that the rear door is full of water gives you the answer to your rear water leak....the drain holes in the bottom of the door are probably blocked, this will cause the door to fill up above the seal line, which will let the water creep over the door step and into the car.
Take a piece of stiff wire and push it into the corners of the drain holes in each end of the door, hopefully this will let the water out, alternatively drill out a couple of new ones on the bottom of the door just above the lip where the doorskin is folded over, don`t forget to touch in around where you drill to stop it from rusting PLUS DON`T FORGET TO DO THIS AFTER YOU HAVE LET THE WATER OUT!...ELECTRIC DRILLS AND WATER DO NOT MIX TOO WELL :shock:

I took your advice Frank this morning and right enough, out poured about two million litres of rainwater!!

The carpets and underlay are saturated, so i removed the front carpets and sound deadening pad thingys and they're drying in front of a radiator.

The rear on I lifted enough to mop underneath and I have a fan heater on and the windows cracked open an inch to see if I can dry it out a little that way.

the handy thing is that with the front carpet set out, i will be able to see if there's any fresh water in the front which would tell me the screen seal is leaking.

Next step.... A BLOODY GARAGE!!!!!

Was gonna suggest a garage as most of the country seems to be sodden wet.. :roll:
