Hi I own a kit car with a morris marina engine and box I have just changed the clutch , and the actuator arm has no pressure in it and is against the hole in the box as if the clutch engaged so when you press the clutch it won,t move the slave cylinder is fine . I wondered if anyone knows how to set this arm so it can then be moved by the slave cylinders pin.

The arm has a rivited spring steel fork on the back of it, which fits over the ball pivot. The forks have been known to break, often due to heavy handling when being dismantled. However usually the fork will have just slipped off the ball pivot during the refitting process. Some people think that the arm has been bent or broken, but they have a curve in them as standard.



If you can remove the clutch slave, there is just enough room to refit the arm without dismantling the bellhousing again.

I recognise that picture, its a type 9 input shaft and a modified bell.

Seriously though, I have a spare used, slightly rusty, lever arm.

It is possible that the thrust bearing has failed terminally or perhaps the two lugs on the lever arm have failed so its free to float on the pivot Chris describes.
The only way to find the problem is to strip it all down unless you do a torch and mirror trick to try to see inside the bell housing.

I may also have a spare thrust bearing carrier, again in a used condition.

It has been known for these arms to bend through usage, either that or the ball pin it locates on has become dislodged and is not allowing it to sit properly.

thanks for all of your comments, ive checked the actuator arm and the fork is attached to the pivot ball i wondered if the arm has to be in a certain position whilst on the bearing how far in or out does the bearing have to be

The two pegs on the arm ride in the slot on the release bearing carrier as per the picture above.

If the clutch slave is seated properly and the rod is in position, then everything will line up. Then "just" bleed the slave.
