My parents are often talking about moving out there.

They would do if they could convince me to go.

This may be the right bargaining tool....

I have seen this online before - got some pictures of it some where.
I think it is genuine and has a lot of work done.
Nice new rear lamps as well.

Looks like it has coils on the rear!

If it s the car I think it is, then it is a genuine Works Special Tuning car sent out as part of a team for a NZ rally, there is an article on an NZ website somewhere showing the rebuild. The provenance is everything, so you would want to see copies of all the paperwork before buying.

The rear suspension has been "turreted". The shock absorbers are mounted upright, rather than laid over at 45 degrees as standard. This maximises the shock absobers ability. The job was also done on Escorts etc. Later on, Ford added coilover springs and deleted the leaf springs, they then had to add four trailing arms and a panhard rod.

 Very nice bit of kit!...that is the genuine article guys, probably the best there is out there at the moment, hope it goes to a good home, with all that provenance too, i would think it would be a sound investment for that sort of money. 8)

That's just the opening bid. I expect the reserve to be much higher :( . Genuine works car with a local history, driven by an Australasian legend 8) , expect it to sell for at least 3 times that amount. Going to have to have some serious negotiations with the wife on this one...

I can't find the rebuild article on the web, but I'm pretty sure it is the works Jim Richards '72 Heatway rally car, and still with the original shell.

Would have to have a serious chat with the bank manager first. Just spent lots of moolah on house repairs

Judging by the price BDA Escorts and Chevettes are selling for, $20,000 would be a reasonable price for this car, with it's history and condition. And I'm fairly sure some of the questions posted on the auction are from wll known names in local rally circles.

That must have been where I saw it, and may be what the seller was referring to in his answer to my question. Bummer
