could anyone tell me where I can get the oil pipe from the oil filter housing to the block on a 1800cc marina engine I will buy the whole thing complete with oil filter housing if need be.

It's the same as the MGB from the same year, so you should find new and or used on MGB websites and Ebay.

It also means that if you buy MGB you can buy with the attachment for an oil cooler take off if you need it. I have one in the garage that I need to get around to fitting.

I could be wrong but didnt all the MGB's have oil coolers. Not my strong suit but if marinacoupe has one in his garage, go for it!

Was just browsing the Moss catalogue for the MGB and it fell open on the oil filter page.
The part number of the pipe and most of its fittings is 1H1056 but it's price is not listed, indicating that it is a rare part and might be unavailable anyway.
A quick web search suggests that the same pipe is used on MGA but there is no mention of the Marina.

This pipe is only the same if you have the bottom load oil filter. If you have the top load, the pipe is different. If you have no success finding what you want locally, email me: marinaman@aristotle.net I have lots of the top load variety--cheap for forum members.

Got any good top load oil filters?
I only got one left and I hear some are not as good as others as they let oil go instead of holding it!

Got a feeling the one I have fitted at the moment is not as good as the last one, oil pressure takes longer to get going. Not to bad but keeping an eye on it.
This is a Black with yellow text Unipart GFE114 Old part.

I was planning to pop into Sussex Classics (local MGB parts people) tomorrow on another issue.
I will have a chat whilst I am there, but they are MGB specialists so are not necessarily aware of the specific differences between MGB and Marina (though they are learning)

Skip, not wanting to do you out of business, but you may still be cheaper than an MGB specialist, do you have original part numbers for both versions of the pipe?

Paul, good to see you on Sunday, the car is looking excellent, even if you know that bits of asbestos have dissapeared. So far as oil pressure goes, whenever I have built an engine I have always thought that the pressure took a long time to get up. I think it is in the mind. But some of the oil addatives can help with cold start conditions.

Not to worry, get it where it costs the least. Besides, all my stuff is on the west side of the pond. The line for top-load filter heads is 12H3561 of whick I have none. The line to the bottom-load filter head is 12H4259 which I have only used but in excellent condition. I also have quite a few bottom-load filter heads: 12H4405, also used but quite serviceable. The number for top-load filter head is 12H3273. It is the same as MGB, of course. The late model MGB used BHH1809 for the non-oil cooler versions to connect the block to the filter head. It's a flexible hose, and I'm sure this would work just fine on the Marina with top-load filter.

Well, slap me and call me Homer Simpson--I meant to say bottom-load in quantity here. Don't have any top-load units.

My MGB man suggested that as the solid pipe from block to oil filter housing is now impossible to get, unless specially made as a one off, and that it would be cheaper to fit a complete second hand oil cooler setup from a 1974 MGB, or have a flexible hose made to suit. A company like Pirtek should be able to help.
What neither him or me can comment on is the length of the hoses required as it will depend on which of the two different coolers, a 10 row and a 13 row. is fitted and where it is mounted.
I do not think an oil cooler is of any benefit to a Marina. Though they were fitted to MGB's with the same engine as the Marina, this may have been for salesmanship reasons rather than practical, unless they were fitted to satisfy the US market where hotter climates can be experienced. Perhaps with the onset of Global Warming it might be relevantin the UK.
An oil cooler should be mounted low in the car primarily to keep it full of oil rather than to drain back into the sump on switch off. Ideally they should be mounted separately from the radiator to get maximum airflow. Take care that it is not vulnerable to stones etc. Otherwise fit it as closely as possible in front of the radiator, a gap between the cooler and rad can disrupt an even airflow through both.

That beastly thing they sold here after 1975 called "MGB" actually had no oil cooler. The pipe connecting the block to the filter head was simply a shortened cooler line: BHH1809. You very likely could use this in the original pipe's stead on the Marinas with top-load filters. I have yet to test this theory. Skip

Skip, thats a good find. Listed on a very few web sites in the UK. Next time I see my MGB man I will ask him.

I thought I had one of these hoses in stock, but I don't. So I started searching for sources. Several suppliers in GB offer it under BHH1809 or CAM5493. Moss's number is 435-585. Cheers.
