i use some medium qualty spanners/handtools although a few hazet items are in the collection as well.
my first rating is that it have to be chrome-vanadium.
The base of my hand-tools (i.e. most of it) i bought over 20 years ago. some pipe's, spanners have been lost over the years but most of them are still there - doing the job perfect.

what i DO wear out is the screw-drivers both the flat-type and the philips type - and i swear they're only (almost) used for screving not for chiseling etc

I use laser tools mainly but do have some cheap draper too. I would love to get some snap-on but have you seen the prices!!!

Elora is a good make paul. I tend to have alot of halfords spanners and sockets as they have a lifetime guarantee like snap on and never had any problem with them

My dad had some really cheap screwdrivers that I was using for my numberplates but the screws just ate them! So he broke out his Snap on ones which were really good but if the Halfords ones are pretty good (and cheaper!) I think I will mosey over there at some point!

Sheesh just looked at the prices of the snap ons I should have stolen thosewhen I had the chance!!

Halfords do some fantastic tools, very reasonable price wise too.
I've got a Draper set which I've had for years, but usually I use a Facom (when funds allow!) socket set for odds and sods.
Cheap tools are just that, cheap. Budget stuff is ok for one or two jobs, but any more and they'll either break in your hand or refuse to work properly. Expensive tools will last, but if they are only going to be used on weekends, not everyday, I'd buy Halfords/Draper etc.

I get somthing like 25% off Halfords tools if I use my mates trade card there. The socket sets are really good but mine have started to loose thier chrome.

Paul, I know how you feel I should have "AA" written on the back of the TC for when I go on trips with classics! It is amazing how many people don't have even a small selection of tools!

So what do people reccomend for a small kit they can keep in the boot? I tend just to take most things because it acts as balast in the coupe!

Heh I do have my own I just prefer to use Paul's that way mine don't wear out!!

but for long trips i carry . double sided spanners 1/2"-9/16" 3/8"-7/16" a couple of screwdrivers, combo-pliers , adjustable wrench, steel-wire, a bit of electrical cable, gaffer-tape, points, and a fan belt if i remember to toss it in

Carrying this in your boot makes the car run like a dream, take them out and you're sure to end up at the roadside

I tend not to carry too many tools now as these good old BL motors are so reliable they rarely misbehave, besides I’m in the RAC!

i use varing brands of tools, halfords professional stuff is really good, 1/4 socket set, rachet spanners ect, lazer 1/2 socket set,Draper 3/4 set and torque wrench, combo of spanners from snap on to Elora.sykes pickvant pullers ect. also have made up/modified tools for specific jobs.
spares wise a setup dizzy ready to drop in, fan belt, oil, and brake fluid.
jump leads,spare bulbs fuses and some lengths of wire and a su type electric fuel pump and a couple of lengths of fuel hose.
had some fun journeys in the past

I use a lot of different brands too , but after buying some snap-on for work you can definately feel the difference !! and pay the difference as well !!!

8) i carry a wooden box in the boot.a set of af combination spanners,plugs points,condenser,cap and rotor arm.a fan belt a throttle cable and its carb connecting screw,screwdrivers,tie wraps,slave cylinder kit and a small bottle of dot4.a float chamber needle and seat and a couple of bulbs.never used them yet but you never know.
