Couple of developments that might interest you lot.

There is an annual classic car show happening in Christchurch NZ in two weeks.
For the first time ever - to my knowledge - there will be two Marinas on display.
The local Morris Owners Club has requested two for their display this year to be themed "The end of the line" - with the cars featured against a railway buffer and other railway bits.
One of my sandglow Mk3's and Zeb's Mk3 pickup will be the two.
Needless to say this has involved a lot of cleaning - as I don't usually worry too much about polish. Even meant cleaning the engine bay - dang.!
Point is - now considered 'classic' here.

Second thing.
A member of the MOC was given (for free..), an original Mk1 estate that his neighbour had owned from new. Tidy, but far from pristine.
While his son-in-law was driving it home from work, a woman in a 4WD collided with it, moderately damaging the right front guard.
Their insurance company wrote it off as they could not source a guard. Fortunately, he bought the wreck and is repairing the original guard.
Here's the thing.
The insurance company had never seen the car, but they inspected it and valued at NZ$3000.!
Not many would ever fetch that price here yet.
Considering I paid less than $300 for 4 of mine, which are in better condition than that Mk1, they have appreciated by more than 3000%.
How many cars do that.?

If you are intending to buy a Marina in NZ, better make it soon.

The car outside the gate, and the red pickup are the 'classics'. The red saloon got a clean too, but is not as original.

Good luck with the car show Kilroy,but you shouldn't need it ,that saloon nearest in the shot looks the dogs.
I bet you'll attract loads of lookers and enquiring minds.
For any and all the stick the Marina has suffered over the years they sure look good especially with your magic applied,the Kilroy touch.
Browsing through the classic weekly car paper over here you see the odd marina pulling good money,that is a bit excessive the insurance right off.without even seeing the car !
Best thing about the marina is the ability and scope to improve the car.
I just love your Marina collection it's amazing all the cars you have acquired,brilliant stuff and always good to see them.

Just had an email from a guy in Canada. His Austin Marina coupe has been valued at US$8500.
Getting up there.
My cars were never intended to be show pieces. I have modified them to best suit my needs. Even the sandglow for the show has been lowered 2", but I figure not many people will even notice.
I'm trying to get the organisers of our display to let me put a piano under it...

Well - we set up the display last night.
Under wartime conditions..
It was a bit frazzled, with cars and bods everywhere - but lots of fun.
The show was held in a stadium, its mid-winter, and nobody wants their pride and joy outside..
It still managed to rain on my shiny car on the way there - but depsite that, it looked pretty good I thought.
Each club was limited to two cars..





Some very exotic machinery and displays at the venue, so we were not anticipating any form of prize.
Just a bit of respect..

Looking good. Its a shame you didnt get the piano underneath. How about a couple of old piano keys hanging from the rear bumper though.

Well - we picked up several new members, one one chap was apparently determined to buy my Mk3 handbook which was on display in the window..
Presume he had a Mk3 then.
Must be one I missed...

Every second person who wanted to talk began with some reference to Top Gear.
I finally got down to two responses;
- how many cars can do that to a piano.?
- yeah - isn't it great.! Every car they wreck makes ours worth more.!

What was more impressive, was the feedback from the other exhibitors. All very good, and most expressing surprise that Marinas had not been considered 'classic' much sooner.

I found some Peterborough pictures on a site called Autoshite.com (not my idea of a good name for any website) not sure it is in favour of the Marina either :roll: Link near the bottom it shows the Rally Marina which I saw on the day but missed it had a No Pianos sign on the roof! :shock:

Unfortunately it also had a picture of my car but you can't win them all. If I had known the guy taking the picture would put it on that forum / site I could have dropped the bonnet on him

Probably me being stupid but if they didn't like the show why did they bother going to it? They got some brilliant pictures as well . Congratulations on your stand Kilroy looks spot on. Nice to hear that you got sensible comments from most.
