water leaking through the doors and screens
After a torrential down pour I sat in the car to see where the leaks were coming from, the night before had left a puddle in the passenger footwell so I took the drain plugs out to let it out. The water is dripping down the trim next to the parcel shelf, which is also damp. I saw water dripping in mostly through the front door, i checked behind the door panel and it was damp so its by passing the door rubbers. The rear screen is leaking on the corners and dripping into the boot. Ive checked on here for similar posts and is the captain tolleys stuff any good? My car is turning into a collinder. Im buying a cover today for when I have no choice but to leave the car outside when its not garaged.
Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
Mine just doesn't have drain plugs, or carpets- problem sorted
Drilled a hole in the bottom of the spare wheel well to stop that turning into a paddling pool as well.

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
If its coming in through the door cards then I would check the door drain holes for starters. If blocked they allow the water to build up in the doors until it comes in the car via the inner door panel.
Also it helps if the holes in the door under the door panel are sealed up, either with heavy tape or a complete poly sheet. This will stop any water splash from poor or knackered window trims and slamming door etc and keep what water is in the door in the door.
A leaky windscreen can give a puddle on the parcel shelf as well as the kick panel.
Yes Captains Tolleys does work, not sure how long for but did stop my screen from leaking. Still got one leak to do on the rear screen as the rubber is knackered and when I get a moment I will fit my new one which should help.

It didnt leak through the doors today, put some silicon in the gap on the quarter light. Still pouring in through the windscreen onto the parcel shelf, driving me mad. When will this rain ever stop.

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
All Marinas have gaps near quarter lights as far as I know and sealing it may work but the door should be able to let the water out and prevent it from splashing against the inside. So I guess you still may have a drain hole problem and a missing or not sealed inner door panel.
Glad you have slowed the ingress.

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
I remember having a leak which dripped all over the fuse box on JBS 101S & blew a few fuses!
Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
I drilled holes in all the boot wells to try and let it drain away. Still gets in everywhere else in the boot! I have a replacement screen rubber to go in mine.
I also get it coming in through the air vent in front of the windscreen so usually cover that up (although the front of mine was a swimming pool the other day!)

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
Im just going to have to sit in it in the rain again with a torch and look up under the dash to see where the dripping is coming from. And yea Josh I read some related posts on leaking screens, urs is still coming in through the vent? You should buy a cover for your car, I got one to put on mine when I go somewhere and leave it outside overnight when its not garaged at home. A ford mondeo one fits it from argos, was 25 quid and keeps the rain off it. Im going to have to cut the carpet out of the front and paint the floor with hammerite, its already getting some surface rust from damp carpets. I wanted to get some new carpet from the stoneleigh resto show but cant see the point if i cant seal the leak.
Anyone going to the AGM soon?

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
All the ones in the Argos catalogue stated not suitable for cars over 15 years old for some reason :?
Keep meaning to get one.... the sheet of perspex is tie wrapped to the vent and nothing can get in at the moment anyway. Drainplugs are also out.
Actually the leak is the next job so I'll be busy with my torch soon.....

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
Yea it said that on mine, probably to cover themselves incase people buy them for classics and they dont fit, the one I got is the same size as a mondeo one and its fine cos theyr roughly the same size with a soft lining. I just took the chance cos I was sick of it leaking. Hope u find the leak, u taking urs to the AGM?

Re: water leaking through the doors and screens
Hi Folks,
I've been watching this post for a while now and been surprised that no-one has suggested the the usual products of a screen sealer from 3M that I bought from the local paint spray shop many years ago or the 'Tiger seal' that I bought recently from the same place when recommended to seal other areas.
When my car was new it came directly from the factory storage yard and so no pre-delivery check. I got a local dealer to take it on and they used a similar sealer as the front screen leaked almost immediately. When I rebuilt my car some 15 odd years ago I was luck to get all new TC rubbers and fitted the screens using screen sealer, no leaks so far.
This stuff come in a large tube with a nozzle, to fit into the usual squeezy gun thing, you push the nozzle between the glass and rubber and track all round the glass, the the same between the paint and rubber. If you use the correct stuff it will not affect the paint.
When I rebuilt it I knew of the rear lights not sealing into the rear panel and being clever sealed this up with clear silicon (probably bath sealant), it attacked the new paint (cellulose) which to this day has not dried again.
Tiger seal comes highly recommended and I used black 3M screen sealer (it can be used to fill the cracks in the rubber). My experience is that this is a more reliable solution to leaks.
Most cars that I have had the misfortune to have had to work in the doors have had a plactic sheet sealed to the metal of the door (notable exception being ferrari - crap built quality) so that water that gets past the door WINDOW seal goes straight out the bottom of the door. replacing these with something thicker than bin liner material helps stop the door card buckling.
