The MMOC will have a stand again this year although the car to be worked on has yet to be decided. Why not come along and say hello. The show has very good autojumble and lots of trade stands, if you are looking to complete your car, it's a great place to find difficult to find trim bits and great discounts on tools etc. The link to the shows website is here National Restoration Show.

You can prebook for cheap tickets or give Andy Walsingham a bell or email and see if he has any free tickets left - they are only for people willing to help on the club stand for a couple of hours during the day, but we make sure that everyone who comes to help gets plenty of time to look round the show.

I should bring mine if anyone wants to swap a gearbox

I think that it would just about be possible to change a gearbox and bleed the clutch between 10.00am and 4.0pm. If you have the new box to swap in and are serious, speak to Andy. I think that this ideally would be at least a three man job

1. Get the car as high as posible.
2. Detach propshaft
3. Disconnect clutch slave
4. Get something to support the engine in situ or maybe drop the back an inch
5. Unbolt starter motor
6. Support gearbox in place
7. Lift carpet and remove gearstick protection plate - then remove gearstick
8. Detach reversing light loom
9. Unbolt bellhousing from engine backplate
10. Unbolt gearbox crossmember
11. Lower complete gearbox unit
12. Swap bellhousing, gearbox mount, clutch slave to new gearbox, check the spigot bearing is OK and reverse the above process

Unfortunately I have not sorted out the spare box yet!
Plus weather as it is will put me off getting the car there but I think you are right it is do able
You may even be able to leave the carpets in but the spring plunger on the gearstick may mean you have to take the carpet out :?

Regarding 7. Lift carpet etc.
It is not necessary to do this.
When you drop the rear mount from the gearbox and lower it slightly, you can simply unclip the gearlever from underneath, and remove the reversing light wires.

Good call on the gearstick guys. Can't do that with my 5 speed, the cover is bolted on.
