backplate oil seal

Post by eddieevo » Thu Nov 04, 2010 9:45 pm

Hi can anyone help me out I have a kit car with a morris marina gearbox I have an oil leak and think the back plate oil seal needs changing as I did'nt change it when I changed the engine. I have bought the seal but it looks a lot bigger than the one I remember and its got a spring in it and mine did'nt, I think some marinas had triumph gearboxs do you think this is the case I have ordered a seal which was fitted to triumphs in general herald, dolomite, spitfire etc.
any ideas

If I understand correctly, you mean the rear crankshaft seal.
That has nothing to do with the gearbox - it is specific to the type of engine you have.
If it is also a Marina engine, then a Triumph seal does not fit.
If it is a Marina 1800, then any BMC or MGB 1800 seal will fit.
