I think there was a 6 leaf spring in the S/T catalogue... Don't have it to hand tho sorry. Is the ride height on the back "normal" or slightly raised?

8) youre right paul.i took it for a run before i took the engine out and it handles great much better than the later saloons. i have always felt that the marina was always too soft at the back.the 2 leaf springs werent stiff enough.just look at the video of the launch of the marina on the test track.i wouldnt like to throw one about like that. has any other "j" got 6 leafs on the back...........larry

Saloons I think handle better than coupe's in all Mk's. You could have had the heavy duty pack fitted and the springs reset to give a lower ride height. That said the car is over 30 years old and could have been changed by a previous owner.

i have fitted heavy dute springs to the coupe and it made the back end much more bouncy good for sliding the back round but dangeros for road
the one i have now just used beter shocks and a antroll bar
