Just had a stainless steel exhaust system made up and fitted for me. It really has released the power that I was expecting from the cam change and twin carbs last year. It seems that old exhaust was strangling the engine quite a bit. Makes a lovely noise now.

It means that I have the old stainless steell back box from the previous system if anyone is interested. It has the twist in the backpipe for an estate car. I'll post it up at the weekend in the Classifieds section with some pics.

What manifold are you using? Been thinking about exhaust options for when I do my tuning work. Any chance of a photo and spec? What bore etc?

I read in the MGB tuning manual that the only aftermarket exhaust that was better than the cast iron unit was the Peco HDR. So I left the manifold well alone and concentrated on the rest. I am using 1 1/2" primaries and a 2" system with both silencer boxes. The 2" system may be too big, but I still plan to fit a T16 engine so it will be OK.

I remember from my Mini days, that the first thing to "fix" was the skinny wee exhaust pipe. iirc the A-series and B-series shared a lot of development and the same tuning tricks work for both. 8)

How does the new exhaust sound? Are you going to get it dynoed for the "garage" forum page?

I have been thinking about getting her dyno'd, but I think that I would want to get the timing set up better first. A dyno session runs in hundreds of pounds so I don't want to do it too many times.

Cam timing or ignition timing? I used a great dyno tuning outfit when I was young, who played with the distributor weights and needles until they got everything spot on. 8) Charged an arm and a leg, but was worth every cent.

I have timed the cam in already, needed an offset woodruff key to get it spot on. I am still using the SDL dizzie, despite having a mapped ignition already to fit.

Last weekend I was loaned a 247hp turbo Volvo S60 to play with. I was hooning around my local roads and looked at the speedo. Jeez - I'm doing 70k through this tight bit.

Good point and really only a stopwatch could tell I expect. However, I know that I seem to be snatching the gears more quickly as I accelerate and its less breathless than it was above 4,000rpm.

Working on the basis that if you change one thing, you end up changing another, it has exposed the dodgy 1st to 2nd change synchro, so it'll be gearbox out for a rebuild at some point I guess. I'll get the outdoor show season out of the way first though.

Loving the sound of that 8) Was it very pricey? Have you had it made and fitted it or was it made to the car? Been thinking of going down the same route,looking for a pukka exhaust to bolt upto my 3 branch
