Date of manufacture from VIN number

Hello all. My log book only shows the vehicle date of registration (March '73') which is only a few weeks over the no-road-tax classic car status however DVLA have advised me that if I can prove that the date of manufacture was in fact before Jan 1 '73 then they would reimburse my road tax! Can anyone help with manufacture data? Thanks for your help!

If you can supply your chassis number, the owners club have a list of the last chassis to be manufactured that is tax free so should be able to help.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for your helpful reply. I will do as you said and get in touch with the club regarding the chassis number (and also to join!). I'll post the outcome to the forum whatever happens.

Cheers...

Hello all,

I've still had no luck with this - I did contact the Marina Club (one of the email addresses on the website) several times but after initial contact have not heard anything. My road tax is now almost up once again... Does anyone have a contact name or email address at the club who may be able to help me find the date of manufacture?

Thanks again for everyones help.
Cheers,
Caroline.

Hi Caroline

The way to find out is to write to Gaydon Heritage Centre - http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/contact-us/

They have all the British leyland records and will be able to tell based on your vin number when your car rolled off the construction line, I think there is a fee of ten quid, but you get a shiny certificate to show the DVLA. As a matter of interest my coupe was also registered in March 1973, but it was built in November 1972, so I recon you could be lucky!

Cheers

Ian

I'd suggest that you may be surprised by the level of information held by Heritage Motor Centre. We were told that all the old Marina/Ital records were thrown out by BL and so never got to HMC.

Has anyone had any success with them?

this info is on the site so if your chassis number is lower than these you could be in luck

Marina 1.3 two door coupe M-A2S9 (-S) 223002-M

I wrote to the heritage centre as I wanted a certificate and they told me they had little or no records of Marinas.. :? Might be only certain build years..?
