How Many is too many?

Post by Viscount Orange Biscuit » Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:44 pm

I had a interesting conversation with a friend today who thinks I'm crazy getting a second Morris Marina,(He hates all old cars sad man) to which i replied one could never have too many Marinas
i personally would love to own one of each variant I have made a start with 1.8 and 1.3 SDL Coupes but I'd love to add a TC, a couple of Deluxes and a Munford so that would bring the total to six followed by the same models saloons.. five more , one of each Estates another four, then a pick up, Van and Suntor, all Mk1s as i prefere them. so I guess 18 standard motors then a couple of Modifieds (a V8 and a six cylinder.)brings me up to 20.., then of course i'd start on MKIIs, MKIIIs then Itals.
I supose what i'm really saying how many is too many? i think i need a lotto win, i could then have one in each colour..as well lol.. so many cars so little time lol
anyway How many do you own and what would be your dream Marina

 Sounds like you`ve caught the bug seriously mate, two is probably enough really, the more you get the less time you have to spend on each one and eventually you end up like me with too many! (6), if you want a list i can probably remember most of them off the top of my head  ......

I've always had the Bug Frank my mum offered me her marina when she bought an ital but i had a capri at the time and couldn't afford 2 cars back then, regretted not getting it and spent years looking for the right car, then just like buses 2 turn up in less than 6 months lol, going to get these two exactly as i want them then maybe think about more, would have to sell one of the others cars mind garage is full neighbours garage is full and drive looks like a car park , either that of buy a house with more space lol lotto wins again so not in the near future.. good to hear there are folks on here with the same obsession makes me feel all warm and fuzzy lol

5 [plus doners] is enough - one of each body style. arrange it so each one has a different motor [5 of those by my count - perfect] if you so want.

for myself one is prob enough. there are other austin/bmc that i would like too. for instance -

p76 [v8 with matching caravan]
a35 [o-series]
ruby [rodded - already got the v8 so maybe retro-tech with r32 running gear]
sunbeam imp [13b/vw box]

for starters. maybe an altezza or a peugeot hot hatch as the token 'reliable' modern car. 7 is my favourite number after all.

Only got one Marina, a '74 1.3 coupe which was my first car jointly with my brother. In the garage and in need of serious work but not a basket case by any means..

Got a few alfas though...
1996 155 1.8 16V used as a runabout in derby.
1995 155 V6 with many mods and a new 3.0 24v V6 from a 166 to go into it.
1995 155 Q4 (Delta integrale running gear in a 155 shell) Running around 260 bhp and needing a respray.
1992 155 2.0 TS my first alfa, took it all over europe including nurburgring etc. Was suffering from rust issues but all sorted now but needing built up.
2001 156 1.8 16v bought for it's wheels with a blown engine. Planning an engine rebuild now.
2006 156 2.4JTD family car. Been lots of trouble due mostly to previous owners neglect. Stonking when it's running well though with 240bhp and over 400lb/ft torque. Eats driveshafts for breakfast.

Got an MG ZR for the eldest daughter which I've spent some time with too
and a Pug 106 for the next daughter too which has had it's fair share of issues this year too...
1974 White 1.3 Super Coupe, lots of Alfas....

Factory engines :-
1300 A
1800 B
B diesel  (1500 or 1800 :?: ) (popular in Malta iirc)
1500 and 1750 E OHC
2600 E 6
1700 O
2000 O (auto only)

Need a V8 as well 8) , since ST fitted a couple (factory enough for me  ).

How about :-
1300 ute
1700 wagon
1750 TC coupe
2600 saloon
V8 custom van 8)

and a replica 2600 coupe race car to play with on the weekends , with a P76 tow car 8)

Now, where did I put that winning lotto ticket... :P

Hmmm...Don't believe there is such a thing as too many unless you run out of time or money.

I would ideally like one of each model in each colour as well but I doubt that will ever happen
Top of my shopping list are: tax exempt 1.3 coupe, TC saloon, TC coupe, MK1 estate, pickup, Jubilee, LE coupe, J reg, MK3 saloon and an Ital.

Think that would be me sorted although that's not to say I wouldn't buy any others if I got the chance

As it is I have one non tax exempt 1.8 saloon that is bankrupting me
Club archivist/chief anorak
1936 Ford Model Y- On loan from the CCLP
1971 1.3 DL Coupe (VRU362J)
1971 1.8 SDL Coupe (CAE419J)
1971 1.8 SDL Saloon (JHC999J)
1971 1.3 SDL Coupe (CHY79K)
1971 1.3 SDL Coupe (JGC240K)
1971 1.3 SDL Saloon (OVW292K)
1971 1.8 SDL Coupe (MCU274K)
