How much is a mk1 DL saloon worth?

hi everyone

As some of you may know i own a 1972 TC coupe, which is currently in storage whilst we work on my dad's rover p5b coupe. It may be another year or so before we get the TC into the workshop.

The other day i was at our local classic car wreckers and he'd just got a 1972 1.8 DL in, with full TC spec parts on. The car runs, breaks work and all electronics work. It has also had the sills, front and rear valence, wings and rear arches replaced. The floors, inner sills and spring hangers all look solid. the only thing is it hasn't been sprayed. i took my friend, who does bodywork for a living, to have a look and he said he would buy the paint and do the remaining work on it for Â£300 for me. So I was thinking of buying it to run at the moment. the man wants Â£650 for it and i was wondering if this is a reasonable price (considering that i will most likely sell it once the Coupe is on the road). I thought you guys would be the best people to ask, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

to be totally honest they are worth what you're prepared to pay, our 1.8 sdl coupe was Â£1500 on the road mot'd tax free and a good un, the 1.3 Blaze needs recomissioning and we paid Â£400 incl 2 sets of wheels and most parts to put back together, on ebay they seem to make a few hundred for a basket case to a few thousand for minters, and the positive side i think prices are increasing, well if you belive the classic motoring press, Buy it anyway i'm sure you'll not loose money on it and if it's tax free theres always Josh, he'd buy it

Hi Torryn,this DL you are thinking of buying. Is it a saloon? Also what colour?

If you can get it resprayed, looking great and with a nice new MOT then I would have thought it good be worth Â£800 to Â£1,000 as a DL. With the TC parts maybe a little more, just don't advertise it as a TC.

Sounds like sams/franks/my old red saloon that was originally blue....that was a TC saloon but was marked on the logbook a DL....a mistake by the dvla!!

arr thats interesting, Ill have to look further into it, although i seem to remember that mk1 TC's didn't come in harvest gold (Im not sure though).

Yes TCs did come in Harvest Gold ask Steve Moss, the car now owned by terrytibbs.
