Had a quick scan through todays Classic Cars Weekly and found that Roy Cross's original art work commisioned by Airfix to adorn the box lid of their Marina TC model is up for auction. I think bids were starting at £650.
The picture is the first version of the one below:

I had another look in Classic Cars Weekly today and I must say that the original painting that is for sale is much better than the one above that eventually appeared on the Airfix box.

Must admit i liked the picture and think it would be great to own but £650 for a picture the size of a postcard seemed a bit steep to me, and i notice it didn`t sell...shame really, still at least i`ve got a couple of the kits still in their boxes

 It would be nice to get a copy of the box art blown up and printed onto canvas, the missus got an Edwardian postcard of Scarborough done this way by someone who advertised on Ebay and it was a very reasonable price for a large canvas.
I'm suprised that the painting didn't sell as Roy Cross's work has quite a large following.
Do you intend to make the Marina models one day Frank, or are they just too valuable as collectors items? I noticed that Airfix re-released the Triumph Herald kit recently from the same range as the Marina so who knows one day it might reappear. :)

it all depends on whether the Marina moulds were in the alleged 'damaged' moulds area. I don't think they had the foresight that one day people would be interested in making kits of 1960/70's cars back then.....

Aye Ray, it starts getting silly when you can pick up a real Marina for the price of a model or a pic of one doesn't it?
