1" rattle gun with uni joint & a 46mm socket.
Socket spun out ,uni caught my glove then pulled fingers in.
My reflexes were quick enough to limit it to 1 finger.
If I hadn't ripped it out when i did it would have ripped both fingers off without a doubt.
Gloves saved me but also caused the problem.
I was very lucky.
Back to the dash, can anyone help our brother Jason out.It will be going in a 6 Cylinder resto.

i have 2 rhd ml1 - dont remember the condition tho ..
it would anyway be cheaper to get them from uk

To avoid confusion over the type of dashboard that you mean, can you post a picture.

Happy to be corrected, but I thought all Aussie Marina's used the Mk1 UK dashboard? By comparison, the Mk2 was also retained for the Mk3 and Ital in the Uk although the dials changed very slightly in look by mark and model. These turned up in NZ so at least in the same hemisphere.

Like this? Image

All 1700 (Mk3) in NZ got the 4-dial dash (and centre console with analogue clock), but Mk2 1300 only got the 2-dial dash (and no console). Would be surprised if Kilroy or Charlie Safari don't have a "spare".

Just a word of caution, the two dial and four dial dashboards share a common plug system, but totally different plug wiring. Going from a Mk1 loom to a later loom is likely to only complicate things further. Also the indicator and wiper stalks, heater and choke controls and the steering column housing are different between Mk1s and later cars. I'd recommend buying the cars loom as well as the dashboard, instruments and other controls all in one go.

I drove an Aussie 6 and it had a mk1 dash standard.

Mk2 and 3 dashes have some differences.
Switch cutouts differ and other stuff.
I agree that you would probably need wiring loom to suit dash model.
Mk3 stalks are highly sought after as the dipswitch breaks.
The housings would also be needed as the stalks from 2 to 3 mount on different angles, and on opposite sides.

Frankly, the restorer needs a complete car to wreck in my opinion...

Not exactly a "restoration" to original, more of a "facelift" to what-might-have-been. iirc the South Africans got the tooling for the Aussie Leyland bodyshell and engines, but in 1977 fitted the Mk2 dash and called it a Series III.

Jason is the gent restoring the Marina 6.Not just a freshen up.Complete rebuild.New engine,5 speed supra box, repainted.
Jason saw the MK2 dash in Graham's car & just had to have one.His car,his choice.I think it will look good.Atleast it is not going to God.
