The 71 register

Hi all,
I have started a register for all 1971 build Marinas, for no real reason other than me being an early car anorak
So if you have a 71 build car, or if you know of one or any cars that you used to know of (whether they are still alive or have long since been scrapped) I would love to hear more details.
I have quite a few cars on the register already but I would like to get them in chronological order by chassis number, at the moment I only have registration dates for most cars and they bear no relation to when the car was manufactured.
Some 71 cars weren't registered until 72 (I know of one not registered until July 72!), the easiest way of telling a 71 car is by the windscreen wiper pattern which sweeps in the opposite direction to later cars
Early wiper pattern:

Later wiper pattern:

I believe the wiper pattern changed in November 1971 so your car may be a 1971 build even if it has the later wiper pattern, I need to work out roughly what chassis number the changeover was (but I can't do that without peoples' chassis numbers

)
One outcome of this is being able to see what the earliest surviving cars are. At present they are as follows....
Coupes:
1.3 DL HPC 683K (Teal Blue)
1.3 SDL GPC 421J (Flame Red)
1.8 DL No 1971 examples known
1.8 SDL CAE 419J (Flame Red)
1.8 TC JRO 445K (Blaze)
Saloons:
1.3 DL FPH 441J (Bedouin)
1.3 SDL TDL 229J (Flame Red)
1.8 DL No surviving examples of any year known
1.8 SDL JHC 999J (Flame Red)
1.8 TC CAA 782K (Glacier White)
The oldest known surviving car is FPH 441J with chassis number 1498.

Yep
I only know of one other 71 TC saloon and I have the chassis number for that so it's unlikely you will be knocked off your pedestal

Yep I've got 'JWY' on there as well as Harry's J reg TC coupe

JWY is my car's twin although in much better shape
Not got OHK on the register so thanks for that Lee

It's on SORN, listed as beige so I am guessing Bedouin?

You reminded me of a picture I saw ages ago and wondered if it was the same car...
Nope!! So that makes THREE Bedouin 1.8 saloons, OHK 518K, XUR 407K and HUC 766K. Seems more Bedouin cars have survived than I first thought (one 1.3 coupe, three 1.3 saloons and the three 1.8 saloons).
Total number of surviving 1971 cars on the register is now at 31 plus another few cars that were known to exist within the last few years but are currently 'unlicensed' so I don't know whether they have survived or not!
These are:
AKR 879K- 1.8 coupe, being used to reshell a Mumford
KUL 113K- 1.3 DL coupe, Limeflower, unlicensed since 2008
HUV 423K- 1.3 SDL saloon, Limeflower, was being restored by Andrew Wita, he then sold it on, it doesn't appear on any registration number database
TCL 592K- 1.8 TC coupe, Limeflower, unlicensed since 2002- think this one is probably dead by now
SFG 531K- 1.3 coupe, unlicensed since 1994 but mentioned on this forum in 2009
MCU 274K (was SPO 110K), 1.8 SDL coupe, Limeflower, unlicensed since 2012
If anybody knows if any of the cars listed above are definitely alive or dead then please let me know.
I am also trying to trace a car with chassis number 5419, it is a Flame Red 1.8 SDL coupe that was for sale in an Understeer about ten years ago, the chassis number was in the advert but the car reg wasn't and it was a car offered to the club rather than a private ad so no specific contact details!

Definitely need to pay him a visit! Looks like a lovely car!
I already have HHO in the register so must have read about it on here at some point and made a note of the reg number! Nice to put a picture to the reg number
When you do go see the car I'd be interested in finding out the chassis number- it would certainly help in trying to work out when the wiper pattern changed. I think it changed in October/November 1971 but have no numbers for later wiper pattern 71 build cars.

wouldn't it be a better idea to use a later mk1 shell ?

Cheers Barry, sounds like a rather unusual car
Dave Richardson's J reg coupe is ANJ as well. Look forwards to seeing a photo!
As you can imagine Jan personally I would rather not see any early cars cut up!

Sadly the majority of the car is dead (rear end smash, shame as it looked like a nice car

) but the V5 and VIN plate live on and were last seen on a MK3 coupe
It was registered on 26th May 72 so unlikely to be a 71 build car.
Is there any chance you could PM me the chassis number for ANJ? Registered on 25th May 71 so is quite an early one!!
Edit:
Now confirmed that TCL592K Limeflower 1.8 TC coupe (registered 25th Oct 71) does still exist. It lives not far away from me so will go and check it out sometime soon, I have been told it is well past saving though (mind you by my standards it might be a minter

).
The wiper pattern had switched to the 'later type' at least by chassis number 49314, so at least 30,000 1971 build cars were made with the 'later' wiper pattern.
