Well as Gary Glitter sang before we knew he was a kiddie fiddler," i'm back,i'm back as a matter of fact",yes i have returned the imfamous Russell " the original northern boy, and his trusty pick-up "Nell" so nice to see that so many people still rember me after such a long time away (well one incident in paticular) So a BIG hello to all my old friends and a massive HI to all my new ones,"LOTS MORE TO COME"

I thought yours was a tuned B series in the 'Ute? Snap! Cos so is mine! HS6's on a standard 1.8TC are much more econimical when brand new and tuned right! But then again if you have a 1300 well.. Yeah..um... Anyway! :?

"Nell" in her final incarnation was re-bored to 1998cc,S.T stage"2"head,competion fully matched and balanced pistons, Twin HIF 8 Su's (re-needled ) Osselli in in-let manifold (later on Webber 45) K&N filters stage"2"road/race cam,Janspeed exhaust manifold and system,competiton distributor (on contactless) Kenlow electric fan,American Street-X-racer plugs and leads (these cost a small fortune) rally oil cooler,competion electric high delivery fuel pump,crank re-profiled and hardend,flywheel lightened and balanced,usual suspention mods, competition clutch yet she was still out performed by even the warmest of hot hatches,after about a year of this i went "0"Series (via the M.G 2litre route),smoother,faster, and a lot cheaper to run ("Nell could get through the old go-go juice like there was no tomorrow) the performance just didn't out-weigh the economy,in fairness the "B" Series is a 1950's engine old even by the time it was used in the Marina in the 1970's,what i did miss was the exhaust note,

No mate, just on the single, standard HIF 6, more or less just swaped the bits from a M.G Montego/Maestro 2litre GTI engine,to a 2litre Ital engine(so all the workings remain in-line and not transverse) bet the problem now to do the same swop, is that most of the Montegos/Maestros have gone the same way as the Marina and the Ital, and gone to the great BL rally in the sky,both engines and all the bits cost less than £180 to do the job,(but that was a while back) bet the hardest part now would be to find the donor cars!

I did fit the SD1 2ltr into an Ital estate onec.. It had the twin carbs on and that was a bugger off the line! Rather go for something more modern if I was to do another conversion.. 8)

Whilst we're on the subject of modifications, I'm in the throes of lobbing a turbocharged 'T' series / LT77 box combo together powered by L.P.G. (100 ron octane) . Should be interesting to see what young "Douglas" thinks of that !. None of the problems associated with the rattly timing chains, tappet noise, leaking tappet chest seals, not wanting to start below 6 deg. C, carbs going out of balance etc, etc, etc not to mention 22 M.P.G. on a run at 50 M.P.H. !!, 'B' Series Eh !!. The only thing left to do is digitise the exhaust note & we're off.
Viva the modified Marina, & stuff it, because they're never going to be worth anything, you may as well get some fun out of your old banger, before the tinworm dissolves it before your very eyes!!

Na done that Brian.. It's too much work and effort for another old oil burner.. You would be better off fitting a hamster on a wheel for the good it will give you to fit the dam thing! The engine mounts and exhaust would be the main problem to clear the turbo and chassis legs.
LT77 is just too big for the Marina, if you did do it I would opt for the type 9 conversion at least it is a slim line box in comparison! Induction would be a doddle on non coil pack and standard ECU but then you have to cut the bulkhead.. Coil pack versions are a better engine but then you would be better off having an aftermarket ECU and throttle bodies. There was a guy that built a NASP T series into an Ital estate running a 2ltr dizzy and electronic ignition with twin weber DCOE's..
Go down the Ford engine route... It would be much easier! !
