Piggy backing on this post, but are there any recommended gearbox rebuilders for Marina gearboxes, whether 1.8 or 1.3?
And/or are there any stockists of the Marina input shafts?

I know these are basically Triumph boxes, and an old Marina input shaft can be built in, but are there any complications ...

It does sound as if the shoes have worn a recess on the inside of the drum. This will also be a problem when fitting new shoes so I would suggest that it needs replacing, or careful machining if there is sufficient metal left, which you won't know till you get it off.

Coming to this a bit late, but using a standard temperature gauge is less than accurate.
It's fed from a very crudely regulated supply, that erratically switches the supply on and off to acheive an average 10v and then a bimetallic temperature gauge.

If your fronts are drum, your rears should be manual adjusters which changes the slave cylinder, but cars get modified.
Any chance of a picture of front and rear with just the wheel and drum removed. It would help identification no end.
