Yep, the same of course happened with JWC, although that had more serious issues to be resolved such as 'engine', 'gearbox', and 'brakes' oh and of course 'clutch'

I've put a lot of work pre-MOT into Ducky which should pay dividends, things such as the new wheel cylinders, cylinder seal kits etc.

Did have another problem though, as the throttle kept sticking open, turns out the cable wasn't mounted in it's bracket properly.

I will have a go at the steering rack when the temperature's dropped a bit

Gary.
Indeed Gary. Reynard was the exact same when I put him back on the road. My rear wheel cylinders started leaking about a week after its first mot in 4 years so I had to change them as well as the tie bar bushes

Got some more zinc priming done today, did the front inner wings, the inside of the outer wings, backs of the headlamp panels, flitch panels and as much as I could of the A posts, oh and the floor as far back as the jacking points.

Tomorrow I'll get some wax on there and after that all I will have to rustproof is the main floor and crossmember, oh and wax inject the doors etc.

Getting there

Worked on the pick up again this afternoon, removing surface rust from the load bed ready to treat and prepare for painting whenever that will be.

I have been away in Blackpool again over the weekend with Reynard and on the return journey he had a slight Hick up while climbing up in to Lancaster on the M6. It felt like fuel starvation and he lost power but after a couple of minutes it cleared. I put this down to some possible dirty fuel as I filled him up in Blackpool before I left. About 30 miles up the road he stumbled again but this time only for a minute then the rest of the journey was totally fine. I was going to investigate it today but decided instead to put it down to dirty fuel.

This evening I was to meet a mate in Edinburgh so I jumped in Reynard and off we went. Within 2 miles of the house and again climbing a hill Reynards symptoms from Lancaster returned but this time he cut out on me on the outside land of the duel carriageway :frown: I managed to free wheel him over to the side of the road and popped his bonnet for a peek. Nothing was obvious so I flicked the points to start my investigation. The points were fine so I instantly ruled out that. I had a hunch it was fuel so I pulled off the fuel pipe to the carb and it broke as it was totally brittle so my initial thought was it may have been leaking. I then undone the lid from the float chamber and the pot was empty. Ok I thought, the pipe must have a split so I trimmed the split ends off and reconnected it carefully. After a good crank Reynard fired up again!

I then just decided to carry on with the journey and took the motorway in to town to make up some lost time. He performed excellent until I hit standing traffic in Edinburgh. While sitting in the middle lane of a large roundabout I suddenly got a whiff of petrol and it was strong. I indicated to pull off and in to the police lay by and eventually a woman let me in. Once in the lay by I popped the bonnet and petrol was spraying everywhere, the hose split again :frown: I managed to doctor it up enough so I could exit the busy Junction and try and get to a quieter road to work out my next action plan then Reynard decided he want playing anymore and cut out. A quick phone call to the RAC followed!

On arrival I explained to the man what happened and he had a bit hose in his van, result I thought! After connecting up the new hose Reynard still failed to start and this time there was no smell of petrol! We popped the fuel line off the carb and I cranked him over again but no fuel came out. The fuel pump packed in too! Admitting defeat I just told the chap to hook him up and take me home :frown:

As soon as Reynard was unloaded, Jim, the RAC man had a neb at the pick up and didn't know that the Marina came in pick up form, he was also a previous Marina owner buying a new T reg one in 1979! After Jim went away I went straight to work and raided the stores for a new fuel pump and fitted it there and then! Reynard is now happy but I will need to nip out to the motor factors tomorrow and try and get some new fuel line for him as the one fitted isn't correct but at least it will do for now!

What an eventful evening. Who said Marinas were boring lol!

Sean

The rotten/split hose thing seems to be a theme over the last year or so. There's evidence that the bio-fuel content in modern petrol rots old hosed from the inside out. Leaving bits of rubber in the float chamber and splits and leaks.

When you buy new hose ask whether it is ethanol resistant before purchase.

Cheers Chris, that will probably explain it. I have ordered a new fuel line specifically for unleaded so I'm hoping that will stand up better. The hose was totally perished yet it looked fine on inspection when I put the car back on the road again

Sean

There's a specific standard for ethanol resistant hose, unleaded hose isn't necessarily the same.

Ahh, Ok Chris. I think I will have to search the net for the correct fuel line then. I'm not taking the chance again and was lucky the car didn't catch fire!

That's the stuff but I've seen it cheaper, check the DIN number when checking other hose.

The DIN number on the hose I have ordered is the same as the one in the link so am I right in guessing it should be ok then?

I went to the motor factors today and got fuel line however Reynard started playing up again. I think I will now have to strip and clean the carb as I'm guessing there is bits of dirt/ rubber stopping the fuel flow through the carb :(

Glad you made it without going up in smoke Sean! Its not a nice feeling when you start smelling petrol in the cabin is it?
Before i installed an inline fuel filter my float chamber used to overflow due to dirty fuel, usually when i hit traffic after a long run. Those last few minutes while trying to find a place to pull over are horrible aren't they? I always carry an exstinguisher with me just in case the worst happens.

Yes Tony I have to admit that a fire was about to occur and I have to say its not a nice feeling.

Today's developments on Reynard didn't go well :(

First up I headed up to the motor factors to buy fuel line although I have already ordered some from the internet. I renewed all the rubber lines and fitted an inline filter. I took Reynard for a quick drive and there was no improvement so I eventually limped him home then stripped the carb. The carb was full of dirt and as Chris suspected bits of deteriorated rubber from the knackered fuel line. After rebuilding the carb I took him another drive and there was no improvement so I'm a wee bit peeved off. I will open up another topic in the technical section and we can discuss the next action to take!

Happy motoring peeps :rolls:
