I woudl wear one of those shirts, because I have found soemtimes when people are poking fun at you, it dies quicker if you take it on the chin and laugh along.

When you take a "slagging" badly, it prolongs it invariably.

I would take it so far as to approach TG and see if they would run a Marina VS soemthing else challenge. Its the fact we're seen to take it so badly affects public opinion of us I reckon.

Thoughts?
Actually I was thinking the club should raise that as a way of making amends and showing we are good sports with some kind of challange:

Here is my idea,

The Top Gear crew are told that they have to enter a Safari rally but their competitors are the German and Australian Top Gear crews...only catch the car has to be chosen for them and prepared WITH HELP for them.

Each country has a car they hate Chosen for them...

Germany....Trabant

Australia...whatever they think is bad

And Britain ...shock horror Marina...

Cut to a dejected UK crew sitting in a pub looking out the Window at the Marina deciding what to do until Hammond suggests he knows a group of people who can help ... dials mobile.

Next shot deserted car park and Top Gear crew waiting when a group of Marinas arrive and out step an irritated group of Morris Men...Top Gear crew ask for help ... Morris Men refuse...Morris men told its VS the Germans and Aussies...Morris men are in.

Cut to Marina preperation shots. with help of club...Montage BLAH BLAH!

Then the rally...don't care who wins (hope it is the Marina).

Top Gear men bond with Marina and we show we are good sports...

End of show

I think that would be a cool show might even rope in a secondary joke that the Caravan Club provide a converted caravan as crew vehicle...

What do you think?

Brilliant.
They would probably not want us involved as they like to do crazy things to the challenge cars, but we should send an email to the producers, definitely.

Hi,

Cool idea...whoever wins gets the choice of where the Piano drops on!
(That includes on Clarkson!)

Love the idea and wouldn't it be great if the Beeb went along with it. Agreeing to run with the idea would show everyone that they were sincere in what they were saying in their emails to people that wrote in and complained to them. I.e that there was no malice against the owners club intended  . Problem is, and I can't seem to shake the idea from my head, I can see everyone walking away happy and a piano falling on the Marina anyway. Typical Clarkson, having the last laugh

That has crossed my mind but I regard that as an acceptable risk if the club is shown to be good sports and up for a laugh...if it was a basically rotten Marina which was done up for the rally I could accept its demise IF and a BIG IF at that the German and Australian cars also die in some suitably comic way....and the members of the other clubs have a comic hissy fit as well!

I see it all as a bit of a PR exercise to show the club who have been unfairly shown in a negative way as up for a bit of fun...

I was chatting with some journalists at the Restoration Show last weekend and we got onto the subject of Top Gear.

The first thing they said was, "It's not meant to be a car show you know, it's classified as entertainment and not factual". Then they said, "You know that the idea of the three blokes is based on the Goodies don't you?"

Makes sense - short funny northern bloke (Hammond/Oddie), effete english public school twit (James May/Tim Brooke-Taylor), annoying self opionated twat (JC/Graeme Garden).

I'll never take the show seriously again.

Goody, goody, dum, dum.

I can understand the new millenium Goodies concept -it works for me and I like JC just a little bit now that I understand where his role & script are coming from..........so in future I will watch TG with the expectation of being amused rather than watching for the cars alone

I saw the piano dropping episode for the first time lastnight, and until the final seconds when the blue car appeared on screen i didnt know it was the piano dropping exercise. Now having seen it, it was beautifully scripted, I was not offended until I saw the piano drop and as long as it was a rotten old example there is no loss to us, just helpful publicity that may make tsome of those who own Marinas take more interest in their cars.
