Cars are never a real investment, unless you in with the money and big boys and buy sell at classic auctions cars with good history and pedigree.
So a nice white original car goes to scrappage scheme
A good white special gets a piano on it
And now a near mint car disappears in a similar way to the special - sounds fishy to me.
What a waste of cars.

Mick Cousins (Peterborough) told me that he'd sold it on when he couldn't afford to run two, he was a truck driver and out of work. He kept his white 1.3 Ital and still has it as far as I know.

Why have we jumped to the conclusion that the car doesn't exist anymore?
My SDL hadn't been on the road in over a decade when I got it. Hardly a mint car, but it was sound in all the important areas.

Because it is no longer on the DVLA database whereas it was before, hence why I started the thread to see if anyone knew what happened to it
Usually if cars have been off the road for a period of time they show up as SORN or have a liability date (a lot of cars coming up for sale recently seem to be ones stored for years!). UAB however comes up with 'Vehicle details could not be found' which is what comes up when you type in incorrect details or details of a car that a COD has been issued for.
If a car has been exported it shows up on the database but will say 'Export Marker: Y'.
Does anybody know who Mick sold it to? Guessing that must be the most recent (last?) owner?

You are right,
For example the Pug in the pic N874 JYG stopped coming up a couple of months after my brother scrapped it. To stop Ringers I guess. . . certainly on modern stuff anyway.

My old Jubilee still comes up on the database, that was scrapped 25 years ago
RUF 632M is the number plate.

It wouldn't come up if there had been a plate change too?

No idea what the regulations were 25 years ago regarding scrapping vehicles. All I know is they are issued with CODs now and removed from the database (such as GCV 356N and JWC 692N).
Yes it could have had a plate change.

WDM 221N and RTB 919R don't show up on any other vehicle checks though, whereas UAB and JWC do
The thing is, UAB was on the database the last time I checked....

I can't imagine it's been scrapped, the bottoms of both A posts were a bit crusty but apart from that it was totally solid, I took it to Holker for the nationals in 2008 the engine was a peach it ran like a swiss watch, I bought it off sean (ado28) and drove it back to Cumbria from near Edinburgh in one go with no trouble whatsoever.... I sold a yellow mk3 to martinmarina a few years ago kvw566v that was a nice car wonder where that is now, same as my 1800gt coupe I bought off chris (lock1506) it went to ireland apparently same as my mk2 mjp744p and my mint mk3 erf131t went into a private collection apparenty !!

Doesn't matter how good it was, after what happened to GCV it is clear some people are willing to scrap mint or near mint Marinas.
KVW was last taxed in 2010. Not SORN either.
MJP is still with Mick McDonnell in Ireland.
Nice to hear ERF is in a private collection. Presumably unused as it was last taxed in 2008 and not SORN.
I'm guessing ERF is currently uninsured then otherwise the DVLA might come along and crush it

Why do they remove them from the database? Here in NZ they stay on the database, but show as cancelled, with a date and reason.
Plate Model Year CC Status First Reg Cancel Date Cancel reason
GC8511 MARINA COUPE 1972 1,750 Cancelled 11/9/1972 20/2/1998 Vehicle taken permanently off the road
GH2020 MARINA COUPE 1972 1,750 Cancelled 11/9/1972 27/3/1996 Vehicle written off by insurer
GA8381 MARINA 1972 1,748 Cancelled 28/8/1972 25/8/2000 Vehicle destroyed or become permanently useless

No idea. That would be amazing to have a database like yours with information of the fate of vehicles.
