It often happens, it's probable that the mistake was made when the DVLA records were first digitised. You can tell from the chassis number and engine number whether it is a genuine TC.
It is possible to get the V5C changed.

Trying to think where I found it now... Probably pinched from somebody else on here, 1993 rings a bell for some reason. Can't be too sure as it was last on the road in August 93 and I would only have been 6 months old
