I've been dropping drums and setting the drum back on its axle with a hammer for 40 years, as did my dad before me...................but what do I know, he was a mechanic and I'm a retired engineer!

I wasn't saying you were wrong, I'm new to any sort of car work and it wasn't something that I'd heard before

The theory behind the practice is that the shock of the hit, makes the drum vibrate and it helps detach the encrusted brake dust.
