rpm low in drive

Can someone tell me why when the engine is working in neutral the rpm is around 900 working ok and once I put in drive rpm falls?
The problem is that when Iam waiting at traffic lights because of the low rpm in drive the engine stops :x
Every thing is almost new, even carb is rebuild, but this still seams to be my biggest problem and I cant enjoy the car.

As the carb has been rebuilt, perhaps the mixture is a bit weak - so the extra load on the engine caused by being in drive is causing a much greater rev loss than is normal..?

How is it with a small amount of choke on..?

All autos lose a few revs when going from neutral to anything - but it should only be a few hundred.

Luck,
