Last Sunday we had a monthly club run for the local Morris Owners.

I recently joined this club because the Marina is just starting to enter the general awareness in a venue usually reserved for Minors, more Minors, and the occasional Oxford.
There is a Morris Minor club too - but for political reasons which elude me, their numbers are split.
Presumably, one lot filched members off another.

Refreshingly, a couple of Austin Princesses turned up too. As it happens, their owners also have Morries, but I was happy to note the O series connection.

As a first - there were three Marinas this time. We do not yet have a large enough following for a local 'Marina' club - and I'm sure that we would prefer to incorporate such with the existing club anyway - on the basis that 'the more - the merrier'.
However.
I do feel the need to 'stretch the legs' on my Marina from time to time, and some of the older Morries do not enjoy the same cruising ability.
I chose to return home by a more ambitious route than the group, so I got my chance to give it a squirt.. :)

Here are a few pics from the event.

The one-handed-looking-out-the-rear-window shot.
Must clean that damn window...

To be fair - they were managing between 80 and 90 K's most of the time - and it did give me ample opportunity to mess with the camera...

A free barbecue lunch was provided for us - in return we gave rides to pensioners at a retirement home.
I thought it sounded a bit silly at first - but if you'd seen what a blast they had driving around in Minor convertibles, and a superbly restored Morris 12, it was a splendid idea, and made us all feel really good about adding some spice to their day.
Club folk resting after lunch with a splendid backdrop...

Cheers all.

Looks like a cracking get together Kilroy, some nice looking cars there. Princess looks cool in that colour combination too. A bit jealous of the weather over there too at the moment, looks like we're in for snow over here, brrrrr.

The 'maroon' colour - was wondering if they were trying to achieve 'Damask Red'. Is it anywhere near that shade.?

The green saloon is a Mk1 1800, owned by club member. Was given to him for free. Got written off and repaired recently. Insurance paid out NZ$3000.On a free car..!

Weather finally coming right here now. Had options of a motorcycle run or the car run on that day. Thought it looked a bit iffy for the bike. Got really hot though.

And I have cleaned the rear window... :)

iirc NZMC used whatever Dulux offered for the NZ market, which seems to have been a mix of UK and Australian colours. Possibly also a mix of "brand" colours, that may have been reserved for Rover or Triumph in the UK. For example, Leyland P76 was sold here in colours not available in Australia.

Was your maroon the original colour, or has it been resprayed at some point? Is there a colour code on the VIN plate? Be interesting to find out what the official colour range was (without having to buy old brochures off TradeMe  ).

I got caught out by the weather too. Thought it was going to rain, but got sunburnt feeding the giraffes at Orana Park instead.

I would say the maroon saloon is Damask red.
I had a mini in that colour and Franks Mumford is also that colour!

Hmmmm, not so sure.A UK MK2 red was Carmine, not as shiny as Damask. However,I've just got home from seeing Bad Manners again  and the Newcastle Brown Ale was flowing somewhat :D.My judgement may be a tad impaired but at least I have an excuse this time

The car in question was originally brown. I discovered this by removing the dashboard and finding brown paint on the panel behind.
I figured that they were aiming for a BMC shade of red with this paint - I imagine its from some current model of something...
I thought it looked close to the damask I had seen on an MGB.
I'm liking it...

Some BMC paint codes are listed at MGB Stuff, Paint Scratch and TCP Global.

Is the original paint code on the VIN/chassis plate? iirc the Aussie cars had an ID plate on the left guard - did the UK cars have one in the same place?
