Re: Steering rack
Tanks again, I will set the new one to the setting I have. The car was a 1978 so presumably a late model.

Re: Steering rack
Cheers Chris. Thought that might be the way. Could I ask one more question. Haynes state that the distance between the track rod end centres should measure 110.8 cm, mine measure 108 cm on the car. Are they wrong with that also/ Don't want to drive all the way to have the wheels aligned with the ...

Steering rack
I am changing the steering rack and Mr, Haynes says to use 1/3 pint of the recommended oil and squirt it through the oil seal on the steering box. Two
questions, what oil to use as the Haynes manual omits to inform you and how do you squirt oil through an oil seal, I thought that was the idea. Can ...

Re: Reverse idler gear teeth number
I need to replace both the idler and the 1st/2nd gear hub, so if I ask the dealer to check that they mesh, I should be okay then?

Reverse idler gear teeth number
I have my gearbox stripped down and am in the process of fitting new parts. I seem to have come across something odd. In what I have read, the Reverse Idler Gear has either 18 or 21 teeth. I have one well worn one to replace. Trouble is, it has 17 teeth??? I have counted numerous times, and also let ...

Gearbox repair kits
I have managed to find a 1.8 gearbox. I have found 1st gear has a chip out of one of the teeth, so have ordered a new one. I was wondering whether anybody has used a gearbox rebuild kit from AutoGearShop on Fleabay? Or can anyone suggest a good source for the parts required. The AutoGearShop kit ...

Re: TR7 gearbox in a 1.8 Marina.
I like your's and Chris's idea of a five speed, but I am trying to do it for half the price, and a little less work. Trouble is my mind flits from one way to the other.

Re: TR7 gearbox in a 1.8 Marina.
Hi Steve. Yes I am looking at the recon box. The ratios will not be a problem as my car weighs a lot less than a Marina. I have just enquired from Rimmers how many teeth are on the gear end, should I need to swap the input shafts. I can then judge how it will affect the overall gearing.

Re: TR7 gearbox in a 1.8 Marina.
Rimmer Bros. have just informed me, the total length of the TR7 input shaft is 11". Just need to find the length of the 1.8 Marina now and keep the fingers crossed. If anybody has one laying around, please give it a measure and let me know. Thanks

Re: TR7 gearbox in a 1.8 Marina.
I have just emailed Rimmer Bros. for the total length of the shaft then try and work it from there. If I need to swap shafts, do I need any special tools to extract the mainshaft? It is many years since I had to do that and cannot remember.

Re: TR7 gearbox in a 1.8 Marina.
That length I have been given (11") must surely be the total length of the shaft. I cannot imagine 11" inside the bell housing. If it is the total length, would that be the same size as the 1.8 Marina shaft, and would that then give you 9mm of spline into the clutch disc?
