They are the same as the MGB. There are two types, the early one with an upright oil filter and the later one with a hanging filter. For a 1971 car it would be the upright filter. Don"t forget the MG Midget, 1975-1979. Due to rationalization, it had the same basic engine, and same trans as the Spitfire(no OD option tho). Rationalization, is that a Brit euphamism?

If I remember correctly, the centre of the crankshaft hole is deeper than if you measure at the edge of the hole, the counter-bore is the correct dimension for the spigot bearing, the centre hole is deeper to accommodate the tip of the input shaft that pokes through the bearing.
