Goodbye Marina!

Sold the Marina last week :(

Good news is it has gone to a good home and may be on here already!

The couple that bought itintend to finish restoring her to show condition. Something I will not have the time and money to do now.

In the meantime, after selling the Motorbike too, I managed to ...

Re: front wings

Good to hear from someone that's used the smith and deakin ones.

Unfortunately my front wings and the rest f the car are going to a new owner tomorrow so I may never get a chance to fit some...

I'll pass the details (and this forum) to the new owner.

Re: front wings

There is of course the non genuine fibreglass wing option, these are £81 each from Smith and Deakin

http://www.smithanddeakin.co.uk/A-E.htm

Not 100% genuine but it should get the ball rolling.

I'm hoping to get a pair this year, my wings are in a mess!

Re: *** THE TOP TEN MARINA MYTHS ***

Back in the 80's my dad's £40 marina did 4 years / 54,000 miles with no crashes, brakdowns or any kind of failures, except for a back light that would sometimes stop working... only needing regular maintenance.

Today someone asked me why I got a Marina - a Forklift driver at work...

FLTd - Why ...

Re: What mpg does your Marina do?

My 1.8 SDL has done 38 mpg on the 50 mph long run back home.

Since then 25 mpg on my local 10 mile commute...

Just fitted electronic ignition, set up the timing and leaned up 1/3rd of a turn so I am hoping for 30 mpg...

My dad always used to get 32 mpg from his 1.8 sdl on a 30 mile steady commute.

Re: Ignition problem

I would reccomend you get the newer version from the same guy - the one with the red module... although it might be worth getting a few thousand miles on your new points now they are fitted...

Re: Ignition problem

I installed my electronic ignition (newer type with a red pick up) and I couldn't beleive how easy it was.

Anyhow, on the original coil it was fine so I put in a Lucas Sport DLB105 coil and that too was fine, retarded it back a touch and there have been no problems all day. starts on the first ...

Re: Should BL have launched a 'HOT' version of the Marina?

Well I was going to keep mine standard but all this HOT Marina talk has got me thinking about upgrades!

I'm thinking, 70's style racing stripes, big wheels, Stage three head, 10:1 compression, twin carbs and a 2" exhaust.

(just need to win the lottery first...!)

Watch this space (for a long time!)

Re: Should BL have launched a 'HOT' version of the Marina?

but I think if BL had really developed the 16v engines then they might have had the upper hand on future markets. Ho hum.Beniboyz.

Interesting point. I'm trying to work out which was the first model (after the Sprint) to be fitted with a 16 valve engine, my memory must be failing.

Was it ...

Re: Should BL have launched a 'HOT' version of the Marina?

I disagree slightly - there was not enough difference between the 1.8 sc and the TC.

Trouble is anything better would have eaten MGB's for breakfast - or they could have made the same engine and gearbox abailable for the 'b' too.

I think Marina V8 would have been the way forward, with independant ...

Re: Help, Speedometer and rev counter.

Hi, Thanks.

I have two voltage stabilisers, and with both I get the same results...

Fuel and Temp gauges are consistent, however the rev counter sometimes goes haywire!

New coil and electronic ignition are coming soon. but I think I'll chance it and buy one more rev counter...!

I hope that I ...

Re: Help, Speedometer and rev counter.

Latest situation -

Speedo #3 works correctly - 4.1 diff in a 1.8 means it reads optimistic.... i'm working on that.

The Rev counter is still playing up.

it reads correctly most of the time but the revs go up when I turn on the headlights and blower.

occaisionally it goes mental and is 3x ...
