.. aka 'camshaft'.
Can someone please tell me how to recognise the MGB type camshaft.
I believe I have seen reference to a number 88G 303 - but I'm not sure whether that number is actually on the camshaft itself - or if it just refers to a specific grind.
AFAIK, the twin carb Mk2's I have wrecked - locally badged as 1800 HL - should have had the MGB cam, but a chap who wandered in to the workshop one day and spied one of those motors told me his garage used to replace the MGB cam with a standard 1800 item to cure 'rough idle' issues.!
Shame - but now I want to ensure that I'm using the correct cam during my forthcoming rebuild.
Got an Austin 575 which is about to receive a 1905cc B series and Mk3 running gear - plus hopefully a lurking 48mm Dellorto which I'm having nightmares about tuning.

On another note.
My tame auto trans guy has thrown in the towel - big shame as he was very good and one of the few local outfits who could be bothered with old BW65's and the like.
I called in to see him as he was cleaning out his years of accumulated stuff, and he gave me a BW65 unit, plus all the Jaguar service info for all the BW units they used, plus some special tools for assembling the pistons, and compressing clutch springs.
Looks like I'm about to become a rebuilder of BW65 auto transmissions.
He has offered to be of help should I need - and his knowledge is so vast, thats bound to be the case.
I can still source complete service kits for a relatively modest $100, so I shall stock up a few parts and start learning..!
Actually - I'm really looking forward to it.
Been reading the service manuals - there are some differences with the Jaguar version being slightly heavier duty - but it means that the Marina (and Triumph 2000/2500) type is a little less complex.
This will be interesting... :D

Cheers all,
Kilroy
