Cooling...

Re: Cooling...
Hi all, me again… prior to my rad flush I had been experiencing the engine temp remaining low, not getting out of the blue zone, but the needle is most definitely working/moving. I was hoping the flush may solve this, which had come on without obvious cause. Prior to this, the engine ran perfectly in the lower half of the green zone.
Post flush, it is still not getting out of the blue, even on the hottest days, and with the air intake angled more towards the engine as is advised in the winter months. Has anyone got any suggestions please of what else I might try? I must add, the engine appears to be running fine in the blue with no obviously issues, but having known it did get warmer than this, I’d like to sort it if I can.
Cheers all.
Rob

Re: Cooling...
You could have the wrong temperature sensor screwed into the cylinder head, the internal resistance varies high to low. They are colour coded on the insulator around the connector terminal. They vary by engine so the 1.3 is different from the 1.8. Which engine are you running?
Re: Cooling...
Hey Chris, it’s the 1.3, if that is the case (and thanks for the advice) strange that this started randomly?

The senders can break down electrically over time, not just good or bad.

Re: Cooling...
The sensor should have a black insulator.

Re: Cooling...
Hi Chris, an update. I bought the temperature sender unit you suggested (from Ang classics) two attempts at postage later and I finally received the part and fitted it today! Good news, the engine temp is now back in the green zone, hurrah! Many thanks for your advice.

Re: Cooling...
Hi Tony,
why did you bin the electric fan after recore of the radiator?
I am looking at fitting a fan to help cooling when in static traffic due to the mechanical fan not pulling in enough air.
Also need a to find a good place to recore my rad near me as I do not want to send radiator miles away in case of damage.
Cheers,
Paul.

Re: Cooling...
I had a Sherpa core fitted into my tanks and frame. I then had them solder in a boss to take a temp switch for fan M22 thread I think, as there were a good few options for referent switch temperatures listed for that thread. Details are on my Nice Brown MK3 Coupe thread. I mounted a pusher condensor fan to the front of my radiator, securing it through the core fins with either M3 or M4 stainless threaded rod ,with rubber and steel penny washers. The Radiator was re cored by Radiator Services in Telford, took them nearly three months to do it. They told me only had a retired chap came in one day a week to do that sort of work. The results have been good however.
