*** The Marina Royale mk3 1300 special edition ***

Post by The original northen boy » Thu Feb 07, 2008 7:52 pm

 Has anybody heard of the Marina mk3 1300 Royale special edition?
A client of mine bought one in 1983 it was then two year old,The car came with front under bumper Lucas spot lights,a glass sunroof, electric ariel,radio/cassette,front headrests, driver and passenger floor mats, vinyl roof and a coach line and decal saying royale, the previous owner had bought it from a dealer in the Midlands brand new.

I seem to be of the oppion this was a dealers clear-out model, based on the mk3 1300L and trimmed-up to move old stock that just wouldn't sell because the new model Ital had been launched.
Unless you know better?

Going back many years to when I lived in Bristol, I remember a Mk2 1.8HL Marina going around with Jubilee wheeltrims, sunroof, silver paint and the Austin Princess 'crown's fitted to the rear 'c' pillars, bootlid and bonnet centre. Justin Brown reckoned it was a 'Silver Jubilee' special done by one of the big dealerships on special order. How many more of these are there?
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

Anything Justin Brown said, could be taken with a pinch of Bubblewrap, Papier Mache & tissue paper, bit like the sills on OVT 957M "It really is a lovely car, never been welded"

i THINK there was a dealer-option , event-package or something on the princess called "royale". IIRC there was under 20 cars made. Maybe your friend is thinking of that car and not a marina, as the listed options does fit the princess conversion.

 Thanks for the information i'll find out more the next time i see him.
But talking of special editions i see a Heinz 57 metro now and then and used to see a Schweppes Metro as well as Metro 500 untill quite recently.

As soon as the sales start to dip the manufactures bring out a special edition (to knock out old stock or as a cash in on a current event) The Mini did at least 30 S.E's so they do work.

Probably, but I actually saw the car regularly around Yate. The owner didn't have a clue to what it was, just a 'Marina'......
