** THE OTHER SIDE TO EL PRESIDENTE,a dark side no less **

Post by The original northen boy » Thu Apr 10, 2008 9:48 pm

 For anyone who has meet Frank, the overwhelming impression he gives of is that of a relaxed quiet person,a very very placid bloke indeed, the type of person that never ever gets remotely upset that carries on regardless never raising his voice,no matter what life throws at him,one of life great plodders,or so you think

Quite a few year ago when the MMOC was in it's infancy we were at a show i can't remember where it was but Beaulieu springs to mind, anyway in those day the Marina was still seen by many as a bit of a joke (thankfully things are a lot better now).Frank had come to the show in his damask T.C coupe, now this car was as close to concours as you can get, there wasn't a mark anywhere on the bodywork or the interior.
The other cars were from good to poor, but we didn't care. For some reason we were very close to the Ford RS boys.(in fact too close) The ford crew were loud,VERY LOUD and the butt of their jokes were aimed at us,now a jokes a joke but this went on,and on.Now Frank started to get a little upset after the constant insults that kept being hurled in our direction,Debbie Frank's wife, kept telling Frank not to rise to there taunts, but the fuse had now been lit and Frank was slowly simmering away.
Things seemed to quiet down for a while until the one of the Ford boys made a comment about the tires on Franks T.C " who would put high performance tires on Marina"he said. This was it Frank went air-borne,the fuse had blown,Mr Placid was on one,Frank without warning started to swear, and swear and was shouting at the Ford camp, they seem took back by this and even more so when Frank started to march off in their direction still shouting and swearing with the intention to administrate some good old fashioned violence on their number ,Debbie started to plead with frank to calm down, but the man was having none of this,Debbie then resorted to plan "B" asking me to stop him "from doing something" i had to run after him and forcefully restrain with the help of an old club member Mike Flood, and then escort him back to our section, still swearing.

Within the space of a couple of minuets,Frank had calmed down and was back to his old self, funny thing was the RS lot never said another word, there wasn't another peep out of them the rest of the afternoon.
So there you are be careful what you say to Uncle Frank,or you could see the dark side of El Presidente.

Well Good for him! :o

It is often the ones that dish it out regularily that are the ones who can't take it when it is delivered back! 8)

 Thanks for that Russ  ..i had forgotten all about that little incident  , still it did the trick mate  , as i recall in those days the mere thought of a Marina at a classic car show was seen as a joke, so we certainly had our share of the abuse that was being hurled around!, still we stuck to our guns and gave as good as we got eh Russ   , while we are on the subject i seem to recall returning the favour to you one day with a member who you didn`t see eye to eye with  , we knew how to have a good time eh Russ!!!

Sadly i have tried to forget that little episode (but he really did deserve it honest) but as always Frank you were and still are the voice of reason (and by drawing my attention to the fact there were plenty of witnesses to come forward and recount in detail any misdemeanor that had gone on)

 What i did miss and this is far more important was my chance with a rather tasty lady journalist (who a rather very high ranking club official was rather taken with/for taken read besotted)

Best not go down that path for safety reasons as a certain old club members wife springs to mind (Frank you are swore to secrecy on that on and any one else who knows who i'm on about you too Bri  )

Yeah as you said mate we did have some really good times
