Hi Andrew,
I could ask the same question on how long a piece of string is. It all depends on the condition of the car to be painted. If it is going to need panels replaced or repaired then that will alter the price as the preparation is the most expensive part of the job. You could easily think that the panels are ok but it’s not until you start the prep work and discover that the car needs more work needed. If you are confident to do the prep work and undercoating yourself then this will save you heaps of money.
The best advice I think is to take the car to a painter to ask him his opinion. What part of the country are you at because maybe a forum member can recommend you to a good paint shop in your area or close to you?
Cheers, Sean

Frank is the man to ask (elpresidente) as he has a wealth of experience but as Sean says it all depends on the condition, the old phrase "just needs a blow over" is in my opinion a bit of a waste of time anyone offering to do this is probably a cowboy as it will look good for about a month, maybe longer in summer but come winter and the rust will be back. I did my own and it took about 3 months in all every evening and every weekend you can save a fortune I even painted mine myself but it's not for everyone I am by no means an expert but a very good job it turned out to be and because I took the time to prep it properly a year on and still as good as the day it was done with no rust showing up.
my local body shop wanted £1200 to do the job and it ended up costing me about £300 in the end and that included the paint.
good luck

Hi Andrew,
Resprays..well now you have a couple of choices to make...1.Do you want to keep the car long term?, if so go for the best job you can afford as it will pay you back in the long term. 2. Are you looking just to tidy the car up for now?, then just have the nescessary bits done to keep the car sound and tidy it up a bit.
Obviously the main criteria when considering a respray is how good the guys doing the work are, how much you can afford, and if you feel the car justifies the expense.
As you know i saw your car at the National and to be honest i reckon it would come up really nice without too much welding or panel replacement, perhaps a couple of wings would help, long term, but on the whole a good solid car.
To do a decent job on that car you would need to spend around £1,000 to £1,500 in any decent bodyshop, but you could throw about £700 at it and get it looking pretty good for the time being
, as Stu said, you can save an awful lot if you can do it yourself, but i appreciate this is not always possible, ask a few locals near you who own classic cars, where they get their work done and how happy they are with the service they recieved, this can often give you a clue as to where to take it with confidence, good luck
