Reshelling with a brand new shell is ok once checked by the DVLA but reshelling with an already registered bodyshell and then changing its identity is called "ringing" and is illegal. :?ado28 wrote:It depends on your intentions, V6pop. Reshelling is not illegal
If a used bodyshell is used it will have to be reregistered as a "Q"plated vehicle.
QUOTE DVLA
Vehicles that have been rebuilt using a mix of new or used parts
In order to retain the original registration mark, cars and car-derived vans must use:
The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt).
And two other major components from the original vehicle - ie suspension (front & back); steering assembly; axles (both); transmission or engine.
If a second-hand chassis or monocoque bodyshell is used, the vehicle must pass a an enhanced single vehicle approval (ESVA) or single vehicle approval (SVA) test after which a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.

And are you trying to say that every classic car on the road is real? I know of at least 11 cars that have been reshelled Including 2 I have already done so does that make me a bad person? I think not. I can’t see why you’re getting all hot and bothered about the subject anyway, it’s only talk!!! Unless you’re a goodie 2 shoes
Beauty with brains behind it!

Elouse, I know that, you know that but we have someone who has fook all better to do other than be a fanny!
Who in their right mind would pay a bag of sand for a car that’s totally rotten? If this was my car or someone offered it to me and I really liked it then I WOULD RESHELL it. Anyone have a problem with this? Besides I know of a Coupe shell that’s within 10 miles of me and is mint!
