Nice Mini! (Coupe's are all nice too!)

Looks like a late '70s example. Does it still have its 1000 cc lump?

Got any plans for it? The 1000s are a great drive, and almost bullet proof.

Had a few of those.

Yes, its a 1980, I have the original Uk reg I put on the wifes MINI. Yes I am keeping the 998cc motor in it, plus it is an automatic (ugh!) same as the Marina which was really the main reason we bought it, the wife can't drive stick.

The car was a little trouble to get through inspection but I have the option of getting a vintage tag on it which means I get it inspected once and then never again as long as I own the car.

Inspection here is far more lenient, drive, stop, brake lights, headlights indicators, wipers and emissions. They don't check reverse lights and anything else that would need putting the car up in the air... suspension, shocks, ball joints, underside rust. I remember the MOT testers back in the uk used to be allowed to hammer at your floorpans to check for rust - knocking all your underseal off in the process.

It failed on the emissions but after the third retry he told us to come back with fifty quids worth of reciepts to show we had tried and he would pass it anyway.

Good luck for your MOT tomorrow buddy

Chris

Well the man in the red suit has been busy this year - and so early. 6x14 Revolution alloys off a Lotus Elan, plus new 185/60/14 tyres.

Still waiting for the hub centre caps - but hey.

The car is on the club stand at Stoneleigh Rest Show on Sunday 26th October - come and say hello. We are hopefully fitting the wheel arch trims and wing badges during the day, if I can pluck up the courage to drill the wings.

Got the same wheels with 185x70x14s fitted this makes them the same diameter as the standard 13" ers, coluor coded the whole centre section on mine and left the alloy rim, looks good in Brooklands to match body colour..... :)

Just looked in garage section, those pics are before I colour coded the wheels, and they still had 195/70/14's on, which, although didn't foul anywhere didn't make for easy parking. So will put new photo's up on weekend.
