CHASSIS NUMBERS FOR EARLY CARS-HELP!

Hi everyone, now i know we have been over this in the past but nobody has ever really followed this up properly as far as i know?...i have recently been asked to help a club member find out the build date of his car, and as we all know the original records were destroyed in a fire years ago, so Gaydon cannot help on this one.
The car was definately built before the cut off date of 1st Jan 1973 and after October 1972, so to narrow it down to a closer date for him i need chassis numbers of 1300 Saloons built or registered in 1972/73, so if any of you have a car registered between 1972 and 1973 would you mind PM`ing me the details? i need only the chassis number, model and the date it was first registered, no names, addresses & registrations etc, are necessary so privacy will not be a problem if you are concerned about that.
Any information will not be published without your consent of course, but this will help us build a picture of the build dates for early cars which are now quite thin on the ground, and information such as this will be gone forever unless one of us takes the time to sort it all out.
In time i am hoping we will be able to print our own `certificates` to verify the build dates of early Marinas so that Historic vehicle status can be claimed by everyone who is entitled to it......so come on guys lets be hearing from you please!

BTW is there any way to get a replacement chassis plate? The one on my '74 coupe was butchered with a chisel to get the rivets out when the whole front end was replaced after re-designing the front of an Audi 80 some years ago.. :roll: Can the club help with this? This car has been off the road since 1988 and is'nt registered on any of the new computerised databases so I don't want to turn up with a dodgy looking plate when I eventually get it sorted..

Hi number 63!
I got mine from Ebay! There are a few variants but make sure you get the correct one with all the right printing.
This was blank and after getting hold of some letter and number stamps I set up a jig to ensure it matched the original spacing and height. I could get the exact font but it look perfect.
I also have kept the old one in case any one decides to point the finger and say it has been messed with!
Some people sell these plates will do the number stamping for you!

I am not sure of the legal side of this but I just wanted a nice new looking plate as mine was pretty old and knackered

Frank-might be worth you giving Jo Warren a call-he has recently took ownership of a early marina-cant remember details but he had worked out almost what week it was made!!

Thanks for all your response chaps!, i`m getting some really good feedback on this and i am now compiling a date and build list of all the chassis numbers i have so far, the gaps are starting to fill in nicely , could do with some more though so keep em coming if you can,...Fergus, i will do the coupes as well so if you want to send them i will add them to the list , eventually i will try and cover them all up to `74 or so and maybe further if i can, but at the moment it is only to prove build dates pre 1973.

How is progress on your chassis numbers Frank. Have you had much response.
Ideally you want as many 71 built marinas as possible because Marina 40 is only 18 months away.It would be good to see a 71 line up.
