It's back

Post by ado28 » Tue Jun 16, 2009 1:49 pm

Yes TG is back on Sunday I believe. This time one of our Scottish cars is being featured/ destroyed. It still has our club badge on the grill so I guess we will be getting a mention and a roasting lol. I have driven this car and it only had 19,000 miles on the clock when Larry sold it. The car drove very well.

Here is a screen shot of what to expect:

Looks like they took a grinder to the wheel arches to make them fit though.

Ian at Classic Car Weekly is up to speed on this - he's really not impressed by them at all....

Gentlemen,

I must be honest and thought the best way to deal with Top gear was simply to ignore it and let the programme pass away in its sleep, but by the very fact that we choose to reply to criticism gives the programme producers a prime opportunity to react. The point i'm going to make is this i was ready for the barrage of responses to the forum after they performed their Marina stunt,i was a little more surprised at the general aggression not just aimed at the Marina car but the venomous attitude expressed towards the owners of these cars and the carte blanche stereotyping of them that was vented on Top Gears own forum Final Gear. The real shock was the Top Gear viewers that came onto this forum, and more importantly contacted members directly, with complete and utter hatred and vitriol, and even on some occasions this manifesting itself in threats of violence to certain members and club officials and act of vanderlism to the cars.

Yet today my attention was drawn to the Practical Classic message board http://www.practicalclassics.co.uk/foru ... highlight= and was some what startled by some of message-board comments, not by their content but the sheer fact they were placed on a classic car site, where i thought the the Top Gear doctrine would be absent on forum member said this

"I logged in to fastmarinamagazine.com (yes really!) It was thoroughly unpleasant. The people posting were ranting, and baying for blood, spiteful nausiating stuff. This should be very funny really but if you try to point out how obnoxious they are being they will ban you from the forum. Not funny at all. Try it if you don't believe me."

Later on the same poster goes on to say,

"I succeded as Peter the Marina (doesn't take much imagination). I tried in a polite way to explain that they had over reacted on the forum, that even though it was a crap car and noone has ever really cared about a Marina but respect for trying. I was repeatedly called a c*nt by ADO28 who ev er he is and was eventually banned fro the forum. Imagine that- the shame on me and my family. Any way, do try and log on it is well worth a laugh if you do get permitted to access the hallowed grounhfd of Fastmarinas.com( i still chuckly at the name)"
*** spelling mistakes are the authors not mine***

I was surprised that some "so-called" classic car owners expressed this Top Gear mentality to the Marina,so if this is what we have to expect from some corners of the classic car fraternity i only wonder what awaits us,well get ready for the torrent of remarks from the Top Gear watchers party,so fasten your seat belt it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Oh by the way the only thing i do agree with is the comment about the forum name, sorry to say i'm really not that keen either, and ADO 28 is Sean "C" in Scotland, a man who dose not hide behind any keyboard or under any mouse mat.

Russ this is a really good posting, and i think you should have given it a entry on its own,i have had a look at the practical classic web site and i agree there is some poor response to the Marina, and to their owners, but on a positive note one or two post that fight our cause. The bloke who says that we are agressive has it all wrong i remember some of the stuff the T G lot posted, and they called us sad.

EDITED POST

I have edited this post on the grounds of it being too much like a Top Gear viewer (or Practical Classic forum member) response.

i subscribe to practical classics and i think i will need to start to defend the marina and ital on that forum. Still folks this is a land of free speech we must respect that everyone has their view on this car and to be honest the more that top gear attempt to kill off marinas the more people may come out of the woodwork to defend it.

I'll still watch top gear and i may kep my subscription to practical classics, but that mag does seem to put the boot into the marina as well.

Keep on smiling everyone we will get through this, afterall we are British and we do love an underdog

Knocking the underdog doesnt make anybody any real friends.
But that is a very good point about the name ´fastmarina´ - I must admit that if I didnt know better, I would expect this site to be some type of Russian bride dating service - the Soviets had good taste naming so many girls ´Marina`!

I remember asking Ben why he registered this name, Ben's answer was that it was an ironic title and a bit of fun.

The problem always is that one persons irony is anothers bad taste or object of ridicule.
