Hmm, quiet on here tonight, innit? (Apart from the usual, really original joker, of course....).

Not a bad show, makes me laugh that Hammond takes the p out of a Marina and he had/has and Opel that was 'done up' by the bunch of sycophantic bum-lickers.... and he used to have a Viva. His contract must be due soon..... :lol: It would be interesting to know if the car made it back to the graveyard at Dunsfold, after all, they only hit the bonnet with the piano. Oh, and there was the slight re-writing of history..... (I seem to recall WE were threatened by a bunch of mongs last time out, not the other way round....)

Lets see what they do next time out.

at the end of the day, people need to get a grip, ok so the marina had it problems as do All makes and types of car, but all the people who knock the marina are knocking a 30+year old car. yeah its gonna be a bit tatty and is a wonder its still here at all. but nether the less its part of the remnant of British industry that is no more, whether it being of there own demise or not. how many other cars from that era are still here? How many European cars are still on the road? not many. because they were all as bad as each other.

the marina may be the under-dog but it was 3rd best seller at the time, couldn't have been that bad then? it was only meant to last ten years.

Exactly - even the Capri had scarier handling than the Marina (trust me, I know.....). Cars then were built with a finite life to do a job, ie carry Mr 2.4 kids and tribe or Mr Rep (Comercial Traveller as they was known then..) from A to B and back as cheaply and as comfortable as feasible and after ten years be relegated to the scrapman through terminal rust. End of. No trying to be everything to everybody on the never-never; if you wanted a family saloon, you bought one; if you wanted a sporty car, you bought one; if you wanted a load-lugger, you bought the estate version of said saloon. Now everybody wants every car to do everything forever and all we have are a bunch of soulless appliances that look alike, drive alike and even are all the same boring shades of silver, grey or black. The Stun had a feature on the new Insignia VXR l;ast week, stating it looked so good people didn't think it was a Vauxhall. I didn't, it looks like every other five-door family saloon on the market and if you covered the badges you could lose it in a carpark.
At least when the Marina came out (which is 1971, for those of you with no historical knowledge and a long time ago....) every manufacturer did their best to make cars look different - go to any old picture of a road and anyone of an age can tell you what car is what, even just by tiny bits of glimpsed bodyshell. Now, well, they are all much of a muchness and no matter how much TG and FG try and sex up new cars, they are BORING.
I'll stick with my Ital and Marina, at least I can find the buggers in carparks! :lol:

5055 is now 38 years old...soon will be 40 and will make 50 and hopefully I will be here to see it. Cant somehow picture a 38 year old vectra or mondeo or any of the French rubbish can you.
But harping back to a previous topic about breaking mk3s and Tallys for mk1s.........maybe better not resurrect that one again. The next time I get a mk3 or Tally to break I will drop a piano on it first then put it on youtube :lol: :lol:

Over and over again i keep saying this,the Marina might not have been perfect,but what cars from the 1970's were? each and every car from that period had flaws,and it seems amazing that when so many classic cars used the very same engines as the Marina range that their reliability is never questioned,The "A" and the "B" series engine were the staple power plants of so many accepted classics,Austin A30/A35/A40,Mini (and the Coopers to huge rally and race success) 1100/1300 and badge variations Morris 1000,MG Midget and MGB/GT and many more,Datsun/Nissan still licence the "A" series even today so good is this engine.

Sadly the Marina myth has over taken reality and is now perpetuated by ignorance,the Marina was a comparable match too many of the competitors offerings in it's day.hence why it was a top seller although not perfect nor were the competition cars either each and every one had some form of problem.

Once more i see the Marina owners Club is singled out for abuse!, i must admit i was a bit surprised especially as this time it was a Marinaecosse Club Car that they destroyed!, the wife was even more miffed because she never knew that car existed let alone owned it!
Sad end to a nice car Larry, as usual with Marinas it seems the car that wins the challenge gets squashed or burned while the losers end up on display in the TG Studio!, funny there was no mention by "jeremy clarkson" who was obviously a Ford lover, of the failure of the Capri to even reach France, let alone take part in the challenge! :lol:

Yes, clearly they were baiting marina owners this time round (given the response last time) - but that's their job, to be controversial.
The fact that the marina (amongst very few other cars from the era) is still going strong has to be commended. Only last week I was watching a Police Camera Action episode on the ITV On Demand website, and this was an episode from 1992/1994 and there were cars on there that I hadn't seen for years! Now, I'm very young in comparison to most of the people on here I'm sure (Given as the Marina is older than *me*) but if there are cars that were on the road in the 90's, and are not there 10-15 years later, and the marinas in your (clubs in general) care, that's good isn't it? And how do you increase that likely hood of them being here in another 10-15 years? Publicity, getting younger people involved!
Sadly, I don't see a Marina on my drive any time in the future, the Landie is here to stay, but I joined not long after the last episode with TG and thought I'd crawl out of the woodwork and put in my 10p (inflation!) about the whole thing :)
