New user still waiting for authentication

Got a mate who's registered to join here and recieved the automated reply, but when he's followed the directions it's not been authenticated. Is there a problem with the system or is the person who authenticates new members on holiday?

Well I have an answer from the lips of someone involved with the forum himself today!

I purchased my first Marina in August and whilst sorting out my club membership decided to apply to the forum about a month ago in the meantime.

No reply or access for the last month which was problematic considering I wasn't one of the Top Gear knuckle draggers who all applied to taunt us...

I went to the restoration show at Stoneleigh today and went to the club stand, had a chat with a guy who has been involved with the forum and apparently since the Top Gear episode they have had thousands of applications from Spammers causing an insane backlog. He was able to text the logon details I had selected to the forum mods and tonight I have been able to log on.

Looks like the best solution is to get direct contact with the mods.

Not really wishing to go over old ground but …

1052 users registered and a hardcore of about 2 dozen posters! The art of mathematics speaks volumes. According to DVLA there is less Marinas on the road than users of this forum! And folk wonder why Marina owners are targeted? The BBC (TG) researchers and other Top Gear related forums have people registered here so that they can absorb information/ rants for further TV programs and also a great way rip the P155 in form of quotes which are most likely planted by them themselves!

All I can say to the people responsible for this board is to wake up and smell the coffee! This board needs a massive clear out so that genuine users can register without the need to be left on “membership pending”

I will probably get banned for making this statement as “freedom of speech” is not permitted here but I don’t really care as Marinas are the least of my worries and certainly very very low on my agenda at the moment and has been for the last year!

for curiousity i looked at the members list and checked the posts and there are 1052 users with under 800 of them never posted, looks like people just waiting to stir things up when tg appears again. Why not supend all the accounts and send a group email to all involved with zero posts and advise them of account de activation and possibly deletion.

Oops didn't want to rile anyone there, I appreciate these things are run by folk in their spare time and everyone has a life outside of car clubs, hence asking politely.

Valid point Sean. There ain't nobody getting banned for having an opinion.
Will have a word with Ben as I do not have admin authority so cannot approve new accounts / delete unused ones etc.
