Help!

Post by BrownItalMan » Mon Jan 18, 2010 5:59 pm

Advice!!!

I went to move the old girl from her expensive council garage to a new, cheaper private garage.
Started first time, however.......

Went to put the car in 1st and it wouldn't go, no crunch, just wouldn't go. Same with all the other gears.
Turned the engine off and then it went into gear fine!
Started her up and tried again, still no joy!

The clutch feels fine but the gears a little "clunky". Cant see any fluid leaks from gearbox/clutch.
Had the clutch slave cylinder replaced last year, only done 1000 miles since and the cars total mileage is 32k.

Any ideas?

Sounds as if the clutch plate is stuck on to the flywheel. If you can get the car on to an open bit of road with the engine switched off engage 2nd or 3rd gear. Try then and start the car . It will judder but should fire. Then kick the throttle and it will free the clutch..................Larry

also get the engine nice and warm thi sshould help in freeing off the clutch.
i normally jack the back end up both wheels of the ground, and put in gear start the engine it will be in drive then, and use the brakes to free the clutch off.
best regards

It worked!

Put the old girl into 2nd and the clutch plate popped free!
Now in her new, larger garage for 50% less per month.

Thanks Barry and Larry:)
