Keys Lost!! OOPS!

Post by mikmik » Wed Jan 20, 2010 8:09 am

Lads, the keys are missing...I know they'll show up eventually. Or maybe not!

:)

So, what're my options? New ignition barrell and locks?

isthere a code anywhere in the car ?

All suggestions greatly appreciated

Regards

Mick

I think you will find mick the ignition has been changed once already I think it was off a metro as for the door locks and boot lock that's a bit trickier you will have to keep a look out on ebay or if your brave enough when you get a new key, any old marina door key I think would do you can make the lock pins in the barrel fit the new key, but there will be someone along with more experience of this than me.....good luck
that'll ding dang do for me !!

There's a number stamped on the lock barrel iirc. Check back through last years postings, I'm sure I posted a link to a website that had the info on how find the numbers.

Thanks Bryan

I take it I just call a locksmith with the number then? Does that work for the door and boot locks too?

Think you just give the code to the locksmith. Should work for all locks. :)

I'll have a poke around at the locks today and see how I get on.

Its all part of the Marina adventure!

Got the Metro one and I'll have a pop at fitting it on Monday.

Anyone got any ideas for getting the shear bolts off the old one? Dril? Puch? easy-out?

Also I don't have any new shear bolts, so i assume i can just use ordinary bolts, and if anyone has an clue what they are - metric or imperial that'd be brilliant!

thanks lads

Mick

Just get a sharp chisel or screw driver and knock them round on the outer part of the head by digging in. Once a few taps they free off and you can wind them out.
Or cut a slot in them with a Dremel tool.

SUCCESS!!!!

I have the new ignition barrell on and the car is running again after a fairly lengthy hiatus.

Just to sort the door and boot locks now. My plan is to remove the door lock barrell and bring it to the locksmiths in town and see if he can make a key from the code.

Thanks to all for their help.

it's a brand new stat and radiator, might be worth checking the water pump and fan belt, but the belt is new as well
that'll ding dang do for me !!
