5 live & Marinas

Post by Gee tc » Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:06 am

Did anyone catch the Marina banter through the 'Drivetime' show tonight between 5 -7pm.19 Jan 2010
They had a slew of emails as the presenter slagged off a Marina.
Uncle Frank gets mentioned. I think the phoned him up?
Some one mailed to say 'beware of the wrath of the Marina owners!'
Many defending /funny mails were read out also.

Hi,

Even though I have nothing to do with Marinas (and ashamedly admit I only created an account to jovially join in some of the TG banter last year  ), I caught the Peter Allen 5 live show on my journey back from Manchester.

They called up your president, Frank, and I must admit he came across really well on the 2 minute interview. Instead of being overly protective of the Marina, he acknowledged these old 70's gals have their problems.

Hats off to you!

(plus another little comment regarding what Mrs President told the BBC researcher when they rang, at 2:30:20)
Cheers all and good luck with your projects.

:D Well done Frank :D the best way to handle the critics is with humour and you did a great job and came over really well good on you! proves that the Marina owners are far more open for a laugh than so many other car clubs once again i would recommend some of the Radio Sheffield stuff that Russ has done well worth a listen

Frank,

Just listened to 5 Live, well done mate, a voice of reason and balance. It was pretty clear that they didn't know what they were talking about, but you put them straight.

Well Done to Frank!
Have a word with Debbie though

I must say a marina will start more readily than most modern cars after being left for years or even decades!!!!
Electronic components do have a shelf life, Electrolytic capacitors for one, so the more of that stuff in a car limits its ability to last.

Has S-TV-S seen the light? I am sure we can find you a good car to start with
That will be one without a piano on it

Thanks for your kind comments everyone  , i must admit i was a bit surprised when the BBC phoned me up the other night and asked if i would care to comment, but i thought...why not, let them see we are really just ordinary guys with a sense of humour, not quite the psychopaths that TG would have them believe! , glad to see a few decent comments as well as the usual "crap car" ones too!, thanks for all the words of encouragement guys, nice to know you are out there  ...oh and good to hear from you too `surrey TV salvage!` :D

:D For what it's worth let me add my praises to your valiant Radio efforts Frank :D

This is not a great time for the Marina owner, and the car in general or British Leyland and indeed "ADO 28" might be at it's lowest profile for many years or indeed some might say forever due to the constant attacks by TG and the consequential bad press this has generated,so what a pleasant surprise to hear Frank as the REAL voice of Marina ownership not the concocted version that has now been created by media hype and coming over as regular and sensible bloke who is willing to honest about the cars shortcomings but who is not put off by them.

People forget that the cars from the 1970's were far different than today, you can't compare like for like a lot has happened in the 30+ years since then things have moved on the Marina was very much a car of it's time, even to the issues with rust but as Frank said "all 70's cars rusted" and many far worse than the Marina,Alfa Romeo, lancia,Citroen and even Ford and Vauxhall were all far worse on corrosion and the Japanese product are best left unmentioned!

And by using humour you turned a negative into a positive, and that's a win in it's self.So once again congratulation on a job well done,a great attempt from "Mr Quiet" you are the Premiership to my Northern Counties, and for that i salute you.
