crankshaft dimensions.

Post by cke81k » Mon Apr 05, 2010 6:14 pm

hi everyone.
i have just had to replace the crankshaft on my 72 1.3 coupe. i bought a second hand one of ebay from a low milage ( also a 72 car) car, but once fitted we found that the timing gear and pulley would not fit over the end of th new shaft. it seems to be about 0.05mm bigger than the one that cam out. can any one tell me if there were different shafts fitted to this engine or if i can get the timing gear or pulley to fit this new crank. or if not does anybody know if this part of the shaft can be machined down.
many thanks.
kaye.

All Marina cranshafts should be marked somewhere with the part number. The BL parts manual 1971-75, lists the 1275 crankshaft as 12G 1302, later engines used different crankshafts and other parts.

It could well be that one or other car had a later engine fitted at some time.

The pulley and harmonic balance unit part numbers is 88G 305.

If there is a difference, I suspect it would be far easier and cheaper to get gear and pulleys to fit the crank, rather than try to make the crank fit your old bits...

You could try to make a small chamfer at the front edge of the crank just in case it has been deformed slightly during disassembly.

Luck,

thanks for your replys so far.
i have checked the numbers on the cranks, and the numbers on the cranks are the same excepct that the old one ends in A, so i am going down the road of getting hold of the pulleys for the new crank.
once again many thanks for your replys.
