Clutch Judder

Hi
Does anyone else suffer with this? Is there a quick cheap easy fix or any advice on how you can pull away from a standing start that can alleviate this annoying problem

PS Car has had a new clutch fitted only 3 months ago

Check your engine mounts and gear box mount haven't gone soft. This will cause the engine to move a lot more than it should causing clutch judder.

Could be engine/gearbox mounts gone soft. Iv heard and had this problem before,the sleeve that the clutch release bearing slides on can wear/go out of shape. Some cars had a alloy sleeve and others came with steel,you want to replace with a steel type as its more durable. Im afraid its a gearbox off job though which in its self a fairly easy-ish job. Hope this helps

Hi Billy,

There are any number of faults that can cause 'Clutch Judder' and the poor old clutch gets the blame all the time.

Worn out clutch
Gearbox or engine seal leaking oil onto the clutch
Too high an oil level
Engine and clutch mountings oil soaked or broken.
Distributor spindle bearings worn (electronic ignition will mask most of this)
Rear dampers worn or incorrectly set

The marina was always known for clutch judder but as far as I know and found in the scrapyards it is also the only BL car that doesn't have an engine steady or damper(maxi).

Also a lot of 'clutch judder' is down to rear axle wind up, torque arms or BL's rear antiroll bar stops this.

Several of my cars had a judder - even autos.
In my case, it was the rubber mount in the centre of the propshaft had begun to disintegrate.
Fitted good used units and that cured it.
