It was done with the approval of Essex Police, ie they said yes that's how it looked, and ok you can do it.

I had a long chat with the chap who built this replica-I'll post up the info once I get the missus to get the notes we made on her I-phone! :roll:

Nice photos folks! Looks a good show (but the best bits are in the car park, of course).

Surprised that Police replica is allowed out with Police writing- or isn't it? I know a friend has a genuine ex Police 109" Land Rover that he has restored to in service condition. He's allowed the jam sandwich but not the word "Police" or the crest, so he has them printed onto magnetic sheets to take on and off.

Oh, and that "display" on the saloon in the show really is horrendous. Shame, because the car itself looks stunning.

I think you are allowed to drive with as you say the jam sandwich markings but normally the blue lamp has to be covered or disabled.
I am surprised they have the same number plate as it must be a different car unless that is only there for show?

I contacted the guy through youtube and said it would be great to get the car at some MMOC shows! His reply was - if I am invited and also free he would come along!!

He said the original was based on a TC but I notice the Super badges on the side! Was this a way to hide the fact it had TC spec or have they left the original badges on the donor car?

Still - great replica and hope you dodged the rain but looking at those clouds I guess not!

The guy that built this replica car did so and finished it only a few weeks ago-this was its first show.

He has built a police replica Minor and rebuilt a genuine Minor panda car before this.

It was based on a press cutting he had from the '70's ( photo taken of ) about the first woman to join traffic division-hence the female dummy in the car at the show. It has since been approved by the Essex police museum.

The car is based on a TC saloon-the only car he says he could find at the time that was fairly solid but is badged as the original-a 1.3 super and wears the number plate of the original car for show only.

The car is road legal, MOT'ed and taxed but he has to cover up the blue light and changes the 'C' in POLICE to a 'T' so it says 'POLITE' - so he cant get in trouble!

The car has full working lights, sirens, public address system and interior fittings-police radio etc.

He is called Steve Ross and is based in Bristol and belongs to the Nostagia car club and would be willing to bring the car to shows etc within a 40/50 mile radius of Bristol. Any further and he would put on a trailer and would ask for his expenses to be covered.

The car isn't perfect-by his own admission but does look good and solid and as much as I could see ( and my limited knowledge of early seventies police cars! ) looks a faithfull replica.

I have his phone number if anyone would like to invite him and his car to there local event.

The crests on the side of the hardtop are magnetic, with a steel plate glued to the inside of the (almuminium) sides.

Sorry for the off topic! Just wondering how he gets away with it with the Marina, as I've heard of people getting into trouble for having "Polite" too, albeit on a (large, white, touring) motorbike.

I suspect there's an autoresizer which crops them down as opposed to shrinks them. Shame- what I can see looks good!

Just right click the picture, left click on properties, then highlight the url address and copy it. Open a new window, then paste it in the address bar at the top , hit enter and bingo....you have the full picture.

I believe that the forum provider creates a standard picture size of something like 800 pixels wide and crops the rest.

I reduce the size of my pictures to 640 pixels wide, before posting so they always fit.

The reason they do this is that a smaller picture loads faster and uses less memory, ideally it would be great to upload the pics and have them automatically resized (like Ebay when you are selling), but as we are hosting them elsewhere (Flikr etc.) we have to do it manually ourselves. Most PCs and laptops have a Picture Manager program and some cameras come with a CD with a Picture Manager on as well.

Usually you display the picture and then "Resize" to suit your needs.

I showed the pics of the Police Marina to a guy at work today and he went all dreamy and said, "I spent many a year ploughing up and down the M6 in those". Turns out he's a retired policeman from the West Midlands Police and used to be in the traffic dept.

Unfortunately he has no pics of them, he did say that West Mids version didn't have the spotlights on the roof though.

The green lorry pictured between the police Marina pictures belongs to a member of my local club, Norton Radstock Classic Vehicle Club. The club won the shield for best club stand, called "a hole in the road" with a road works scene.
You can see two members standing behind the lorry, the one on the left is Ben, club chairman. Just in the picture.

I'm not surprised-it was a stand that you stopped to look at-amazed at the amount of work that went in to it for just two days-worthy winners.
