Post by Billy Shears » Sun Jun 06, 2010 5:47 pm

Dear All

My front parcel shelf has rotted due to rain water. Can anyone advise the best material to use so I can make another

Thanks, Bills (74 1.3 Coupe)

I nipped down to my local woodshop and got a sheet of hardboard, drew around what was left of my parcel shelf and made some templates, then cut to shape. Put to gether with some metal pins (look like pegs but u bend the 2 parts flat, sorry cant remember the name!!!) sprayed it black and had a as new parcel shelf. Hope this makes sence lol

Mine is a similar template cut out but I covered it with "marine vinyl" which is nothing more than waterproof fake leather. Local fabric shops should have it.

Yes, wood with the fabric applied using a 3M aerosol adhesive

Good luck

I noticed for the first time yesterday that my windscreen had started leaking in the rain on the bottom right corner and was dripping down onto the parcel shelf. It has never done this before but I expect the rubber has had it. Im going to try a bit of silicone to see if it will seal before I too have a rotten parcel shelf.
